Ted Koppel's son, Andrew, found dead after night of boozing in NYC: report
Source: NY Daily News

The son of famed TV newsman Ted Koppel has reportedly died.

Andrew Koppel, 40, was found early Monday morning and declared dead at 1:30 a.m. in a rundown apartment in Washington Heights, according to The Associated Press.

Koppel was reportedly drinking heavily on Sunday night, the New York Post reports, and was with a man he'd met at a bar in Hell's Kitchen.

"We took him to the bedroom and laid him down to rest," Belinda Caban, who lived at the apartment, told the Post.

"His complexion wasn't right. It was pale. I said to call the police," she said. "When the ambulance came, they said he was dead."

No one has been charged, and the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.

Koppel, one of Ted Koppel's four children, is the ex-ABC newsman's only son.

1. How very sad for the Koppel family
They have my sympathy. If simply a case of alcohol poisoning, it is so doubly tragic, given how unnecessary.

4. Sad

Very tragic. I went to school with one of his other kids. I'm really sorry to hear about this.

6. It's so rare to outright die of alcohol poisoning ...
My heart goes out to the Koppel family for their loss.

Not that it matters in light of the tragedy, but I have a feeling it's going to turn out to be more than alcohol involved.

7. And so sad to go under such cloudy and public circumstances
To have it reported that he died in the apartment of a man he had just met at a bar and gone home with, while his girlfriend and daughter were presumably across town at home.

A few months ago we had a man have a heart attack and die in the library where I work. The library staff were shaken, but I told them on the bright side, his obituary will say he died doing something we all love--reading.

8. If he was an alcoholic in the advanced stages of his disease it could well be.
If he was drinking day and night a big bender could possibly kill him.

I just lost a beloved family member to cirrhosis and advanced alcolism and we think she was in a state of confusion/delirium when she died very suddenly a week and a half ago...alone...she was probably not compes mentis enough to even call her grown kids to come to her side...
