BP spokeswoman Liz Castro drew the council's ire after saying BP relocated its boom deployment staging area from Pensacola Naval Air Station to privately owned Pensacola Shipyards on Bayou Chico because NAS will not allow the decontamination of oil-soaked booming material on its property.

Patrick Nichols, spokesman for Pensacola NAS, said this morning that NAS never asked BP to relocate its boom deployment staging area from NAS; that it was BP’s decision to leave the site.

Council members then began a barrage of other questions, including whether the Florida Department of Environmental Protection has issued appropriate environmental permits for BP's operations on Bayou Chico and how BP plans to keep floating crude out of Pensacola's inland waters.
Castro was bubbly and upbeat in her demeanor but could answer none of the council members' questions.

The mayor finally cut her off four pages into her 19-page presentation.
It's a local story, but it's worth reading as an example of BP spokespersons continuing to lie or postpone answering questions, and local government officials making it clear that isn't satisfactory.
Federal officials could learn something from that city council and mayor.
