BP Alaska Unit Got Corrosion Warning From US Pipeline Agency

The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a warning letter in April to BP Exploration Alaska surrounding the handling of certain corrosion issues affecting the BP PLC (BP) unit's Endicott Pipeline, the Associated Press reports Friday.

The letter stems from a 2009 inspection of the pipeline at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. The agency - part of the federal Department of Transportation - says BP failed during that process to provide records showing it was guarding against corrosion. It also said signs of atmospheric corrosion were found during the inspection and that BP didn't provide records showing it had monitored for those problems.

A BP spokesman said the company believes its current programs meet all BP and regulatory requirements but is taking additional steps to address the concerns.
