McCain Shakes Up Campaign; Pa. Senate Race Tight
Source: NY Times

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sen. John McCain's re-election bid lost its campaign manager and another veteran Republican official, part of a shake-up for the Arizona lawmaker locked in a tight primary race with radio host and former Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

The pair of GOP hands -- who started before Hayworth entered the race -- will instead work on the Republican National Committee's effort in Arizona. Campaign spokesman Brian Rogers said neither Shiree Verdone nor Mike Hellon, a former Arizona GOP chairman, were fired.

''Senator McCain is very grateful for all that Shiree and Mike have done to launch the re-election campaign and establish it on a firm footing and looks forward to working closely with them for victory in November,'' Rogers said in a statement.

McCain, his party's 2008 presidential nominee, drew a Republican primary challenge that has forced him to the right. The one-time champion of a moderate, bipartisan approach to immigration now is running ads demanding Washington finish ''the danged fence'' he once mocked.

1. Isn't it interesting how Campaign Managers are never "fired"...
...and the Candidate is always sorry to see them go?

4. If McCain loses, he really needs to run as an Independent.
It worked for his buddy Joementum.

After all, Arizona needs his mavericky, tea-drinking, fence-danging presence in the Senate.

5. McShame "SUSPENDS" campaign, asks Hayworth for same...
Why does the current mc-shameful shake-up sound like a repeat, rerun, or retread???

Once again, a mc-shameful attempt to get attention.

LOL.

6. "I understand Joe the Plumber is here today, Joe, Joe? Where's Joe?"

I've been good: I'd love to see McCain lose his primary, run as an independent, split the vote, and hand his seat over to a Democrat. That would be poetic justice for him foisting the Wasila Hillbillies on us.

7. McCain Campaign Manager, Deputy Head for the Door
Source: Fox Snooze

Two top members of John McCain's Senate re-election team are heading for the door as the long-time Arizona senator continues to grapple with a Republican primary challenger.

Campaign manager Shiree Verdone, along with part-time deputy campaign manager Mike Hellon, are leaving the McCain camp to work on a "Republican Victory" fundraising arm for the state party.

But campaign spokesman Brian Rogers told FoxNews.com the departure of the two staffers was planned "since the early part of this year." He said the change-up does not reflect any inner turmoil, and that the campaign will announce their replacements in "the coming weeks."

He said strategists Rick Davis, Mark Salter and Charlie Black are all still on board.

10. Oh, it may not matter anyway.
But now I sort of hope that McCain does pull out a win in the primary -- and waits weeks to start his campaign. ;-(

12. I wish he would just finish his dang Senate career already...
I actually hope he loses just because he pissed me off so much in the 2008 election. Yes, an insane teabagger will get put in there, but in the long run, it will be mainly Arizona (apologies to the good Arizonans out there) that is hurt... and right now I'm all for hurting Arizona.

Dem, as they point out how extreme right wing Hayworth is.

15. Fox Snooze? LOL
Why can't DU have a rule against posting Fox News links on LBN? (Other than AP/Reuters wire reports, but you never know how the FoxNews.com editors mess around with them)

In the meantime, I wonder how things might change for McCain next election with a newer staff.
