U.S. Senate candidate Charlie Melancon says the federal government must consider prosecuting officials from companies involved in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill and government officials who may have disregarded offshore drilling regulations.
"We need to find out if there was malfeasance by people in agencies," said Melancon, a Democrat from Napoleonville and the U.S. Representative for Louisiana's 3rd Congressional District.
"Was there intent by either the companies or government officials to allow this to happen without having the safeguards in place?" Melancon asked.
