Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called on President Obama to withdraw the nomination of Kagan
Source: Huffington Post

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich called on President Obama to withdraw the nomination of Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court, calling her views anti-military and airing, for one of the first times, concerns that during her time as Dean, Harvard Law accepted money from Saudi Arabia.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Gingrich even dismissed the notion that a Senate confirmation process was needed to properly judge or vet Kagan's credentials for the Court.

"I think the president should withdraw it," he said. "You don't need a lot of hearings. The very fact that she led the effort which was repudiated unanimously by the Supreme Court to block the American military from Harvard Law school -- we're in two wars, and I see no reason why you would appoint an anti-military Supreme Court justice or why the Senate would confirm an anti-military Supreme Court justice."

* * *
Throwing haymakers in the midst of a Supreme Court confirmation process is a familiar perch for the former House speaker. Gingrich infamously called Sonia Sotomayor a "racist" during the early days of her rollout -- before having to walk back the claim. The charges he leveled against Kagan on Sunday, however, are a bit peculiar. The notion that the Solicitor General is anti-military (for denying military recruiters access to Harvard's campus in protest of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell") is oft repeated in conservative circles. But the idea that Kagan should be held to account for the Saudi money that Harvard receives is both new and bizarre.

1. A slimeball like Newt Gingrich has no grounds to disparage
an accomplished professional like Elena Kagan.

2. Sounds like another letter from the White House is in order.
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20502

Dear Mr. Gingrich,

Since you apparently were off in la-la land during the election of 2008, allow me to refresh your memory as to the results:

Barack H. Obama/Joseph R. Biden (DEM): 66,822,230 (53%, 365 EV)
John S. McCain/Sarah L. Palin (REP): 58,343,671 (46%, 178 EV)

Yes, that's right. I WON. GET OVER IT.

Kiss my ass,
President Barack HUSSEIN Obama

Why should a SC justice be pro-military?
The one has nothing to do with the other. She won't be on the joint chiefs of staff. She won't be making military policy. She won't even be presiding over military trials.

Probably overthinking this one though...

13. This is the way into the "are you a lesbian" question if you're a Repuke Senator
You haul her up before the Senate hearing, get her to talk about her reasons for her opposition to DADT, then when she starts to put her own revulsion for that policy into the record, you pop that question. Either she says, yes, no, or stammers about it being irrelevant.

In any case, you win. If she says "yes", then you can hang Democratic votes for her on to candidates running for re-election this fall. If she says "no", then you bring infighting to the Democratic Party for her even answering the question. If she stammers, it makes her look untruthful and indecisive. All three things play well to the Rethug base.

30. That will be widely interpreted as a "yes"
and in any case, it will make the story of her orientation something that leaps from the corners of the blogosphere into the mainstream media. Right now, they're pretty quiet on the story, only on "Inside Washington" did I see any mention of it.

Repuke win, once it gets to that. The Wall Street fatcats have already been tipped off with the softball picture, the 'Thuglicans goal will be to make sure everybody's talking about it. Look at all the tabloid and People-clone magazines next time at the checkout counter, it seems that small minds love to gossip about who's gay and who isn't.

16. It's a clear sign that he wants to run for the nomination
I've been seeing that for the last month or two. The Repuke base doesn't have a lot of good choices, what with Mittens being a Mormon, Hucksterbee being a nanny-stater murderer-paroler, and Caribou Barbie backing Carly Fiorina in CA.

He's got to see that leaves an opening for him, and should the Rethugs win big this November, the media will hearken back to the story of 1994. It's not a bad song to be playing in the background when the announcements for the GOP nomination race are just around the corner.

22. You can write Jeb off
He's too pro-immigration reform for the average GOP'er. Besides, even Rethugs resist the idea of dynasties. Reminds them too much of the Kennedys.

28. Newt, just like his contemporaries, doesn't really understand the internet's power
Come on Newtie, run. We have plenty on you and you won't last more than a month or two. Yes, you are the most viable candidate they have but you have dirt, from before and probably from yesterday. We will destroy you with the series of tubes called the internetz. You may have heard of them, but you will hear from them in real time. It's something to behold. Ask McCain or Caribou Barbie.

6. Saudi Money?
When GWBush walked hand-in-hand with the Saudi prince and kissed him -- that was OK.

When he let members of bin Laden's family fly out of the US on September 12th -- that was OK.

Newt, I don't think there's a bigger hypocrite than you are.

Why don't you just shut up and go home?

10. Newt wants to be President. Let's ask him who gave him
HIS money. Also, assuming Newt's right (a big assumption, I know), do we want a Supreme Court justice who is "pro-military"?

Newt should just crawl back in the hole he dug for himself when he tried to shut down the government back in the Clinton days.

12. high hypocrisy.
The wingnuts and repcons have well-deserved reputation for hypocrisy, but this exceeds even their normal levels. That a Fux noise favorite contributor like Newt the toot would bring up Saudi money when his main part-time employer has a Saudi prince as a large minority owner. Beyond that I'm not sure how the dean of a particular college of a large university is responsible for the whole university's policies on anything including military recruitment on campus. This is just more wingnut repcon throwing feces at the wall to test adhesion.I'm not too sure but what the wingnut repcon establishment doesn't run seminars, online and otherwise, to teach the art of high hypocrisy in which case Newt the toot is probably a lead instructor.
