No Press Allowed? ABC Reporter Turned Away from Oil Spill Command Center
Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill: ABC's Brian Hartman Pays a Visit to BP's Unified Command Center

.................

Inside the Command Area

I walked into the main building, past signs ordering everyone to check in, past the women sitting next to folding tables stacked with papers and checklists, and wandered around. But there's not much to see. A door opened to the "Joint Information Center" room and I could see, for a flash, a hive of activity. But someone had taped pieces of copier paper over every inch of the room's glass walls.

When I ventured closer to where the unified commanding was being done, where response teams were responding and watching live video from the robot subs a mile beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, I ran into another woman at a card table and a security guard.

.................

Then the very friendly security guard explained that media are not allowed in this building. "They've set up a place for you across the street."

He led me out of the building and directed me to a building across the street. "It's the one with the big Shell logo."

For the American public to understand???

They might as well stay in their press centre and make up
monosyllabic bullshit like they normally do and no-one will
be any the wiser ...

6. Can I waltz right into ABC News and demand they show me their internal process?
Edited on Wed May-12-10 10:12 AM by high density
I'd love to learn why they appear so right-wing most of the time.

Granted, BP has created a public nightmare with its incompetence and cheapness, but still I don't see how that gives the right for random reporters to demand to see whatever they want. I know when I'm in crisis mode about something, the last thing I need is people looking over my shoulder or getting in the way.

8. It's time for TMZ to infiltrate
I want to know what the rich&famous are wearing as they scrub ducks.

Oh, you want real news on what's really going on with the oil spill and cleanup? Good luck. Contact Haliburton and BP public relations offices.

10. Oh, the heck with all you Nosy Parkers!
Why do you think you're entitled to know anything about BP's private property? Just shut up and keep consuming, and when BP thinks there's something you need to know, they'll tell you what it is. Which reminds me, BP needs another tax break for oil exploration activities. Can you get on that quick, Congress? Some of BP's executives are beginning to worry that last year's yacht might have to go another season, and the ribbing they'd take from the guys at the marina can be just brutal.
