You want names? Kennedy tells GOP to go first
WASHINGTON -- Memo to Republicans: Sen. Edward Kennedy has a deal for you. After the back-and-forth over which foreign leaders support Democrat John Kerry for president and his refusal to name them as Republicans would like, Kennedy offered what sounded like a possible deal on Sunday.

The Massachusetts Democrat and supporter of his Senate colleague's presidential bid offered to let the White House go first by naming members of the vice president's energy task force and the Bush administration officials who revealed the identity of a CIA employee whose husband has criticized the administration's Iraq policy.

Bush, Secretary of State Colin Powell and other Republicans have called on Kerry to name his foreign supporters. Kennedy said the White House needs to do some naming of its own.

''When is the vice president going to give us the names of those people on his task force on energy that jacked up the price for consumers and provided windfall profits for the energy industry?'' Kennedy said. When is the White House going to give us the name of the person that leaked the name to the newspapers, endangering the life of Valerie Plame, who was a CIA agent?''

comment: About time they said "You first Bush, you first".

3. Kennedy is serving them up hot this morning.
Just remember, Ted, that once the Dems are in office again, that it took more than Massachusett's constituents to get Kerry in office.

12. Not too long ago, he was still playing politics as usual.
It was an important issue to the Dems, and Ted buckled for bread crumbs. "All politics are local" is not the way to go in these uncertain times. I don't have much patience when people in critical negotiating positions can then use the momentum to benefit their own constituents and sell everybody else out. Unfortunately, this is what Ted did, not too long ago.

25. That's right. And since he does put you first, don't expect me to do
cartwheels every time he opens his mouth in Congress. I know what he's doing is to get leverage for all of you and on federal issues that affect us all, that is a major concern.

39. Unbelievable!
An ex-Massachusetts Democrat reveals his real alliance and then, suddenly vanishes. What he said was that he wasn't living in Massachusetts anymore, but he was glad that Ted was using his leverage to benefit Massachusett residents and that's what all senators were doing so get over it.

The problem is that not all Senators carry the Kennedy name and all the privileges that go with it. Think about who Bush palsy walsied with on the Democratic side when he first came into office. It wasn't Lieberman, it was Ted Kennedy. And how well did that legislation go where Bush and Kennedy corroborated? Not good at all.

29. I Thought He Said

Glad you brought this up because I hate Arnold and I thought I understood Ted Kennedy to say that he "supported the idea of foreign born citizens being able to run for President."

In my opinion,if that means Arnold, then I don't like the idea.

I also thought he said he "believed that Maria was a wonderful person and he hoped that more of her ideas would affect Arnold in a positive way"

I'm really not sure exactly but I hope like hell we are not waiting for Maria to change Arnold. He is a pompous A** and she is his victim. She has no control over him! He has embarrassed her many times with his feeling all over woman and yet she defended him to get the Vote. She is a victim of domestic mental violence IMO.

37. Maria is a member of the Kennedy clan
so that means that Ahnold gets protected, too. That's all it means. It's smart for the Kennedys to keep Ahnold on their side. Consider the alternative.

Ahnold, for all his many, many failings, is not a Bush Republican.

All politics is grey, not black and white.

49. You got it wrong according to the voices in my head.
I think Ahnold is a Bushovic secret weapon. The Bushevics intend to use him the way they used Ronald Reagan.

Arnold will be their front-man, the new Bushevic 'face,' so they can continue to screw us.

Here's their plan:

1)Arnold will be appointed to VP by Dubya.

2)Next Dubya quits, and Arnold becomes president and appoints Jeb to be his VP.

3)Then Arnold either gets shot by Hinkley, who will be out on a visit, or Arnold will develop brain cancer. The details of that part Rove and Poppy haven't decided on yet.

The Bushevics have been scheeming on this plan for years. Remember, Arnold campaigned with Geroge Sr. in 1992.

15. Ted Kennedy is kidding himself. He is is no position to offer ANY
deals on anything whatsoever. There is the matter of a rather pressing lawsuit that his chum disgraced Cardinal Law is involved in:

<snip>:

From Press World dot com:

"Washington, DC: December 22, 2003 – The sexual abuse scandal that rocked the Catholic Church in 2003 will be viewed as a minor disturbance compared to the looming financial and legal crisis about to break upon the Catholic Church in 2004 according to California attorneys Tom Easton and Jonathan Levy. A trend which has started with a $70 million settlement in the Boston Archdiocese for sexual abuse victims will accelerate in 2004 according to the attorneys who represent Holocaust survivors suing the Vatican Bank and Franciscan Order for post Second World War money laundering of the proceeds of concentration camps and Nazi looting.

The Vatican faces a tough year in 2004 with continuing class action lawsuits filed by sexual abuse victims and ongoing revelations of Church sanctioned cover-ups.But according to Levy these actions are dwarfed by the little-known $750 million dollar racketeering lawsuit pending in a Mississippi court by five states seeking the return of hundreds of millions of dollars stolen by the criminal mastermind Martin Frankel with the help of the Vatican Bank and three top Vatican Cardinals including the Vatican Secretary of State and two former Papal Nuncios to the United States. “The Vatican has done a great job of hushing the case up since at least two of the Cardinals who conspired with Frankel to steal tens of billions of dollars from the US insurance industry are mentioned as future candidates for Pope.”

Added to the Vatican Bank’s misery is the murder case of Vatican financier Roberto Calvi over two decades ago which resurfaced earlier this year in Britain and Italy with new findings and arrests thanks to the stubborn persistence of Carlo Calvi, the murdered banker’s son. The Calvi assassination triggered a $250 million pay out by the Vatican in the 1980’s, new revelations of Vatican connected misdeeds promise to be equally punishing.

Finally, the Vatican faces a legal landmine that has been quietly wending its way through the federal court system since 1999. In November 1999, Ukrainian Holocaust survivors later joined by Serb and Jewish plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit against the Vatican Bank, a Croatian right-wing political organization and the Franciscan Order, alleging complicity in the laundering of Nazi World War II loot including the proceeds of genocide from several Croatian run concentration camps where upwards of 500,000 Serbs, Roma and Jews were liquidated between 1941 and 1945.A Federal District Court dismissed the lawsuit earlier this year on grounds of political question ruling the claim was a matter for the executive not judicial branch of government. The case is being appealed to the San Francisco based Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals known for its controversial decisions. The appeal’s outcome is eagerly anticipated; a pending Holocaust case against Austria has been stayed by the Ninth Circuit court pending the resolution of the Vatican Bank appeal. Meanwhile, Easton and Levy consider their appeal brief a “Christmas card” for the Vatican."

The Martin Frankel business will be Ted Kennedy's nemesis.

28. Cardinal Law has been named by Frankel.
Ted Kennedy is his great chum. He has not been as honest about his extensive historical links to him as he might have been. Perhaps like the Mary Jo Kopechne biz at Martha's Vineyard, he thinks it has all blown over.

He is not an honest man and his current high profile in backing the Dems' new presidential candidate is a two edged sword.

36. This is good, but the democrats need to go further and point out how
dishonorable it would be to reveal the identity of someone who has spoken in confidence. By now it is obvious to everyone that if Bush were in the same situation he would do the dishonorable thing and violate the confidence of any foreign leader who trusted him.

Bush has exposed himself as an untrustworthy, dishonorable politician who gladly would stab any foreign leader in the back. Every foreign leader already knows this about Bush of course, but the democrats should make the point to the American people.

40. Raging Celtic Tiger
Teddy reminds me of a Celtic poem.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though Wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not so gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Dylan Thomas
