Miranshah — Former ISI official and reported friend of Osama bin Laden was found dead in a lawless region on Friday with a note accusing him of spying for the United States, security officials said.

The body of Khalid Khawaja, a former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officer, was dumped in Mir Ali town in North Waziristan, an intelligence official said.

A note attached to his body accused him of spying for the United States and killing innocent people during the 2007 government siege of radical Islamists holed up in a mosque in the capital Islamabad, the official added.

“Khalid Khawaja received two bullets, one to the head and second to his chest,” the intelligence official told AFP on condition of anonymity. Another local intelligence official confirmed the incident.

1. An ISI official spying for America?
That's a good one.

2. This guy especially.
I can think of several reasons he's dead, and I frankly like all of them.

- Really was spying for the US? Unlikely, but anything's possible. That implies a more advanced double-agent program than I'd ever dream we'd have.

- Paranoid Taliban? Good news.

- Splinter group knocking off the competition? Good news.

- "We" killed him and framed him as a US collaborator? See "really spying for the US." We should hope to be so on top of things.
