White House Says No New Offshore Drilling Until Investigation is Complete

Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill Threatens to Jeopardize President Obama's Offshore Drilling Policy

By HUMA KHAN
April 30, 2010

As Democratic lawmakers call on President Obama to suspend his plans to expand offshore oil drilling, the White House today said that there will be no new domestic offshore drilling until the investigation of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill incident is complete.

"All he has said is that he is not going to continue the moratorium on drilling but... no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what happened here and whether there was something unique and preventable here," White House senior adviser David Axelrod said on "Good Morning America" today, defending the administration's policy.

Axelrod said no new offshore drilling will go forward until "there is an adequate review of what happened here and what is being proposed elsewhere."

As Gulf Coast residents brace for mounds of slick to hit their shores, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has seeped into the energy debate in Washington, D.C. and threatens to disrupt Obama's policy and the bipartisan energy legislation in the Senate.

3. Why? Obviously it's safe for the environment.
Obama wanting to allow an increase in offer shore drilling was one of the most bone headed things he's done.

Hopefully some good will come out of this and we will end off shore drilling.

I know...it won't happen.....

As some Democratic lawmakers call on President Obama to suspend his plans to expand offshore oil drilling, the White House today said that there will be no new domestic offshore drilling until the investigation into the Gulf of Mexico oil spill is complete.

WH senior adviser David Axelrod says president is reconsidering his stance.
"All he has said is that he's not going to continue the moratorium on drilling but... no additional drilling has been authorized and none will until we find out what happened here and whether there was something unique and preventable here," White House senior adviser David Axelrod said on "Good Morning America" today, defending the administration's policy.

Axelrod said no new drilling in domestic areas will go forward until "there is an adequate review of what happened here and what is being proposed elsewhere."

As Gulf Coast residents brace for mounds of slick to hit their shores, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has seeped into the energy debate in Washington, D.C. and threatens to disrupt Obama's policy and the bipartisan energy legislation in the Senate.

as they, unlike the Bush administration, is on the side of the American people.

15. "cute" isn't the word I would have used
It is amazing to me how many people there were in the Democratic party who railed against blind authoritarianism during the Bush administration but jumped straight into childish, anti-democratic hero worship the second "their guy" made it into office.

Pathetic.

18. "Pathetic" is the word.
"Shameful" also comes to mind.

22. Actually, I agree with you. I am just testing out a tactic of a dear, departed friend
for dealing with blind followers. I pretend they are kidding. Otherwise, my blood pressure goes too high and I want to throttle the damned fools.

MOUTH OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER - No new offshore drilling will be authorized until authorities learn what caused the explosion of the rig Deepwater Horizon, an aide to President Barack Obama said Friday as oil oozed ashore in Louisiana.

Senior adviser David Axelrod also defended the administration's response to the April 20 accident in the Gulf of Mexico, saying "we had the Coast Guard in almost immediately."

14. Obama's cynical triangulation policy goes up in smoke.
For oil slicks, fumes, smoke, death, economic and ecological disasters, there are "no red states and blue states."

Only the United States, and the world, and the planet, being murdered by unregulated and unconscionable greed, stupidity, and venality.

We have been warned about this for years.

But on one listened, as those voices were silenced.

Disgusting and unforgivable.

16. What
...you don't think Obama had the CIA bomb the platform, so he could back out of his drilling stance?

Or was that the plan ALL ALONG.... Man, he's devious. :D
