2. Not to sound uncaring,
but does an "Aviation Minister" in Afghanistan have a lot of responsibilities? It sounds somewhat out of place, like "Chief of Bhutan's Space Agency" or some such.

Scores killed after Afghan minister dies
Sun 21 March, 2004 17:01

By Sayed Salahuddin

KABUL (Reuters) - More than 100 people have died in factional fighting in the western Afghan city of Herat after the killing of a cabinet minister who was the son of the powerful provincial governor, officials say.

Civil Aviation Minister Mirwais Sadiq, the son of Herat governor Ismail Khan, died after his car was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in the centre of the city, Khan's spokesman said.

"Unfortunately, he has been killed," Ghulam Mohammad Masoan told Reuters. "He was in his car along with two police officers who were killed with him."

Masoan blamed the killing on forces loyal to a senior government commander in the province, Zahir Nayebzada, who was recently appointed by President Hamid Karzai. He said it was the result of "a personal rivalry".

6. Evidently he was politically connected to the chief-high muckety-mucks.
Assassination on his father last week was unsuccessful. His father is very powerful.

Sorta reminds me of Colombia, assassination of the leaders so that the drug trafficking could go on.Hmmmm.
