Charges dropped against driver who made deer-killing video
Source: St. Louis Post-Dispatch

ST. LOUIS — The video is gruesome.

In shot after shot, with slow-motion repeats, a rural Illinois man uses his reinforced pickup to run down deer crossing a highway, boasting about his killing prowess. He claims more than 300 kills.

Until Tuesday, prosecutors regarded the video — produced and sold by Jarrod Hayn — to be illegal even to possess. ...

But a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court in a separate case caused prosecutors to drop the charges Thursday.

and that they profit from their horrendous inhumanity and cruelty is just devastating to contemplate. Where is that bolt of lightening, when you need it...

2. Why don't/didn't they file animal cruelty charges?
I would of thought a video to be good evidence of the crime.

5. Do you need a tag of you just hit the deer and don't take it?
I dunno. But an innocent roadkill motorist does not need a tag.

6. It's an intent issue, I believe.
In Colorado I know you can be issued a roadkill tag at the time by an LEO if the officer determines you didn't kill the animal intentionally, and you express the desire to eat it.

In my old town from time to time after a deer vs. vehicle collision, the deputy would make a few phone calls to people he knew were generally low on money but high on deer/elk cleaning skills and would eat the meat all winter.

This guy, to be clear, sounds like an idiot.

7. "Take" has a broader meaning in fish and game laws. Basically, any attempt
to kill or capture a regulated animal is treated the same - what you do with animal subsequently (release it, leave it by the road, give it away) doesn't matter.

This guy sounds like a freak, and you're right - Fish & Game should be all over him. They definitely would be here in California...

8. Doesn't Sound Like There's Anything Innocent, Here.

If it's as stated, this sub-human needs to be nailed by wildlife authorities. Immediately.
