Wrong number: RNC lists phone-sex hotline
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 12:37 PM by Stuart G

WASHINGTON - The best thing the Republican Party can say about this week is, it's nearly over.

First came news that the Republican National Committee paid $1,946 for a gathering at a sex-themed Hollywood club, which a group of young Republicans had visited without RNC approval. The money is to be paid back.

Now it turns out the RNC inadvertently listed a phone-sex number on a fundraising letter sent to potential donors. People who tried to call the committee were instead offered "live, one-on-one talk with a nasty girl" for $2.99 a minute.

5. Yes, it was a mistake
Republicans would never dream of talking "live, one-on-one with a nasty girl" for $2.99 a minute. They'd prefer something in the range of $1.49 a minute, or less if they could get it.

6. Depends on whose dime they're spending. . .
$1900+ for faux lesbian bondage sex? Maybe. . . if they were spending your money. Their dough? Gonna find something in the blue-light special aisle. . .

4. Well, whatever it is, to me it's rather sweet payback for some of that crap that
kkkarl rove pulled (stuff he learned from that damnable schmuck lee atwater) when he was one of those adorable Young republi-CONS. Like the local Democratic candidate gathering about which he sent phony flyers out, promising liquor and nasty girls, on stolen local Democratic party stationery with letterhead and everything. It's made me wish we had our own kkkarl rove to give them a taste of their own medicine, but it appears that their own ineptitude, sense of exceptionalism and entitlement may be taking care of things for the rest of us.

14. I dont think its fair
To paint all republicans in this light. Granted, there are a few bad apples in ever barrel statistically you cannot say this is some reflection on the vast majority of people on that side.

Out of curiosity I went to a Tea Party rally. Everyone I met and saw was decent, polite, and nice. This was in Annapolis MD not too long ago.

18. Would they have been quite so nice to a black Democrat if he'd happened through the crowd?
I'm guessing not.

I'm curious, though - what's at the root of your indecision? What are the factors that keep you undecided? I'm genuinely curious, not trying to pick a fight.

28. It is very hard to be a hard-right or hard-left when you try to look at the whole picture
Edited on Fri Apr-02-10 01:13 PM by UndecidedGuy
It is like being a rope in a tug of war contest that is why. I think there are certain ideas that are good on both sides, but the methods by which they are achieved or even promoted often get in the way of real success.

31. You don't have to be hard anything.
Politics, in a personal sense at least, aren't like a jacket you try on and wear if it fits. They're a natural extension of your value system, an expression of how you operate in the world and how you'd like the world to operate in turn. And so, as people are complex and multi-faceted and sometimes contradictory, their politics will tend to be too.

It's too simplistic to say that all progressive-leaning people are going to be caring and empathetic and all conservatives are grinchy and mean. Certainly neither is 100% true. And yet there must be some foundation of belief which leads one way or another: towards a political outlook which tends to see us all as fellow travelers in an often difficult-to-navigate world, or one which casts us each as individuals who have to struggle through alone, and whose progress, or lack of it, is evidence of our quality as a person. Conservative politics tend to put up walls: between people, between races, sexes, sexualities, nations, religions, ideologies; progressive politics see those divisions as secondary and gives primacy to our common humanity. "A rising tide lifts all boats" (and other cliches) on the one hand, and "every man for himself" (and other cliches) on the other.

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is you've already got the worldview that will lead you to one political persuasion or another, so instead of reading through the idea books of each ideology, as though you were trying to decide what kind of car to buy, look within.

I didn't mean to write a whole lecture - apologies!

So yes -- ALL Republicons must bear the Bad Apple label, because they earned it. They twice 'elected' and thereby inflicted blatant WMD-lying, war-profiteering, preppy Chickenhawk phony 'conservative' fiscal & moral fools on the formerly prosperous and honorable United States of America.

Evolve or go back to "Teabagville"? I didn't come on here to insult you or anyone, just make a reasonable case for my standpoint.

I see too much of this pattern of insulting and labeling the other side as what you want us independent swing voters to think, and the truth is it alienates us from your positions more then you realize.

Until the day Republicans become PROGRESSIVE, they don't have the interests of the common man at heart. I don't see Hell freezing over any time soon either.

Your posts on this thread have been fairly reasonable so far.
The responses just shows how polarized Americans are right now. However, I have to say that teabaggers are getting harder and harder to defend, unless all you watch is FOX.

Making fun of Michael J. Fox like he did shows a sick attitude. I think people need to realize he is just a court jester for the conservative side, and nothing else.
