ABC hires Amanpour for Sunday morning job
Source: AP/Yahoo

NEW YORK – ABC News said it has hired Christiane Amanpour, one of CNN's best-known personalities for her international reporting over the past two decades, to host its Sunday morning political talk show.

Amanpour, who will start in August, replaces George Stephanopoulos. He left the show in December to take over as co-host of ABC's "Good Morning America."

Amanpour's hiring indicates a change in direction for a show that is concerned primarily with politics and domestic issues — like other Washington-based counterparts "Meet the Press" on NBC and "Face the Nation" on CBS.

"With Christiane, we have the opportunity to provide our audiences with something different on Sunday mornings," said ABC News President David Westin. "We will continue to provide the best in interviews about domestic politics and policies. But now we will add to that an international perspective."

3. Oh, my word. Yikes.
Now if NBC would see the light and hire Maddow for Meet the Press....
I might actually set an alarm on Sundays.

4. She's of the last "Journalists" at CNN to leave the sinking ship.
Amazing she held on that long. But then, ABC as a journalistic enterprise? Not so much.

29. Her show is on nightly on CNN International
And I mean EVERY night of the week.

Having just one episode shown once a week on CNN USA must have really pissed her off. Especially when a non-journalist like John "Obsequious" King gets treated like some sort of super star.

8. Sounds promising, hope she doesn't fall into the trap that so many of them do
Having to play nice so they can get A list political guests on their shows.

She doesn't have a DC press background, and she doesn't seem like the type to be impressed by the cocktail party circuit, so maybe she will be an honest journalist, and not a GOP sycophant.

Maybe there will finally be a Sunday morning show I can watch without puking or getting pissed. We'll see. They'll have to get rid of jokie roberts, I think.

14. She would have been best as JENNINGS' replacement than Charlie-Diane
Although the Brits and other countries are closer to gauging the true worth of "anchors" by calling them what they really are: "Readers" and "Presenters".

One of the few serious, fair, hard-nosed, take-no-crap, get-the-story journalists left in television news. I am thrilled ABC made this decision.

As I mention above, her show is on nightly on CNN International

And I mean EVERY night of the week: http://edition.cnn.com/CNNI/Programs/amanpour /
