CNN Breaking: 3-4 explosions heard in Baghdad...
Edited on Thu Mar-18-04 01:09 PM by alg0912
...no info yet on damage or casualties.

Blasts in Baghdad, Sirens Sound at Coalition HQ

It could be just mortar rounds, something common within the Green Zone and rarely causing damage or casualties. However, given the recent bombings, I thought this worthy of LBN.

<on edit>It appears to have been mortar rounds...

Green Zone...

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Several explosions were heard in Baghdad Thursday night, and sirens wailed briefly in the area housing the U.S.-led coalition headquarters.

"There was an attack. We are investigating it," a U.S. military official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

There were no reports of casualties.

The blasts shook the Baghdad convention center inside the Green Zone, where the coalition headquarters is based.

on edit: new link....

8. Thanks, leftchick!
:hi:

Here's a Reuters link, also: Blasts in Baghdad, Sirens Sound at Coalition HQ
<snip>
The sirens are usually triggered when guerrillas fire rockets or mortars at the headquarters in the heavily fortified "Green Zone" on the west bank of the Tigris river.
</snip>

Probably mortars... *whew!*
