3. They're just celebrating
the anniversary of their liberation from Saddam. They don't have Fed Ex yet in Iraq to deliver the flowers.

7. I wonder how long this can go on
When insurgents start killing their own people to try and scare them into changing directions it will either turn the people against the bombers or they will surrrender. I think they are running low on willing suicide bombers seeing how these latest bombs were unmanned.

Random murder of innocents has never won a war. I don't know how much longer these bombers can carry on before the entire Iraq population turns on them...or us.

8. A small group will always Hate us for whatever reason,
That group gan get smaller or larger.... the longer we stay, the group will get larger. The attacks on our troops/civilians will escalate as evidenced by the 1 ton of explosives that went off only a few hours ago in Bhagdad killing a whole bunch.

we are sickos for letting the "conservatives" get into office. They are more sick than us... which makes it even worse.

12. and lost in the media noise about the bombings are the 3 soldiers
killed and 9 wounded overnight in Iraq. Maybe I'm too cynical (or too paranoid) but part of my thinking is they want to keep the bases there no matter what, and "civil unrest" makes it easier to justify a larger presence. After all, we wouldn't have pulled the troops out of Saudi without having a replacement in mind.

13. I disagree
murder of percieved collaborators has always been a key element of resistance strategies. So if these are resistance fighters, then this sort of attack is par for the course. However, if they are foreign terrorists, they were never looking for the public's support in the first place. So I don't think it will make much difference.

Nagasaki and Hiroshima for example.

18. I don't think these bombings are casual - they do have a target

foreigners were in the hotel and this new blast must have had a target that was not Iraqi.

Smirk has his collateral damage and the Iraqi freedom fighters have their collateral damage.

collateral damage sucks.

20. man suspected of being involved caught by passers-by and stabbed to death
In Basra, a city in southern Iraq that is patrolled by British military forces (search), a man suspected of being involved in the bombing got out of the vehicle shortly before the blast but was caught by passers-by and stabbed to death, Lt. Col. Ali Kazem of the Iraqi police said. Two others also spotted getting out of the vehicle before the explosion were caught by members of the public and later arrested.

Doesn't sound like popular support for counter-insurgents fighting the illegal invaders to me. I think the Iraqi people long for peace and will turn against the bombers rather quickly.

22. "Doesn't sound like popular support for counter-insurgents"
I think the situation is too confusing to ascribe this bomb to "counter-insurgents." There are a number of suspect covert groups in Iraq with as many different reasons.

Dark actors playing games, and all that.
