A second Canadian was arrested in Saudi Arabia in early 2001 and was tortured during his 67 days in captivity before being released and returning to Canada, a Briton arrested with him says.
The Canadian, who has sought to protect his identity for the past 2½ years, was arrested just months after the capture of William Sampson, the Canadian now facing a death sentence for his alleged role in a series of bombings that targeted Westerners in the kingdom.
The man was arrested along with Ron Jones, a British colleague, and an American outside a bookstore in central Riyadh on March 16, 2001 when a trash can blew up, injuring Mr. Jones. The three men all worked at the same Saudi-owned company, had been out together for the evening on a Thursday night, the Saudi equivalent of Saturday night.
