Zapatero turns down Bush request
Zapatero turns down Bush request
Wednesday 17 March 2004

Spain's prime minister-elect has rejected an appeal by US President George Bush to keep Spanish troops in Iraq.

Spanish elections winner Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero reiterated that he would keep a pledge to pull his country's troops out of Iraq.

"I will listen to Mr Bush but my position is very clear and very firm," Zapatero told radio Onda Cero. "The occupation (of Iraq) is a fiasco."

Zapatero said on Monday, the day after his Socialist Party dealt a surprise election defeat to the pro- Bush Popular Party, that he would withraw Spain's 1,300 troops unless a United Nations force takes over here.

4. Jose Luis Rodriquez Zapatero is a real man standing on his own two feet
for the will of the people. Thank you Spain, for standing up to the biggest crime cabal the United States has ever known. Now bring your Spanish troops home today.

And by the way Mr. Zapatero, please watch your back, junior is a vindictive son of a bitch.

6. How true, 0007.
I share your sentiments, exactly. It will be interesting to follow this story over the next few weeks.

The good thing about this election is that it's very much out in the open. All of Europe has its eyes focused on Spain, the gutsy. I'm sure the Uglies In Charge are assessing the situation, as we speak. The questions they'll be asking are, "what's Zapatero's price? Can he be bought? What exactly does he want? How much damage can he inflict?"

If it turns out that Zapatero is beyond their reach, then maybe he needs to start watching his back. But for now, while the spotlight is turned on, he's probably safe.

I'm betting the new leader can cause quite a bit of damage to them.
