France says Total strike will not cause petrol shortage
Source: BBC News

The French government has pledged to prevent any shortages of petrol and diesel supplies, as a strike by Total workers shows no signs of ending.

"The government will take measures to ensure that France will not be locked down," Industry Minister Christian Estrosi said in a radio interview.

Staff have been striking for more than a month at the six refineries owned by the country's biggest oil group.

The dispute is over the possible closure of Total's Dunkirk refinery.

Strikes spreading to Exxon Mobil. The way things are headed i wouldn't be surprised if corporations were allowed to murder their own workforce (and cash in on their insurances) to break up a strike.

1. In the U.S., if Goober Pyle threatens to shut down his gas station, oil companies jack up the price

5. France has a major strike, but they're assured of no supply disruptions.
In the U.S., any little thing creates a panic in our markets, giving the oil companies an excuse to jack up their prices and it finds its way to the pump.

6. But how do US companies raise BARREL prices.....
Oil is a globally traded commodity. Does OPEC just follow the US companies lead and trade at whatever value is dictated?

8. He didn't say BARREL prices, shithead. But you already knew...........
.............that a company can raise it's prices as much as they want anytime they want. OPEC may control most barrel prices, but COMPANIES control the pump price.

If the government can take measures to ensure that France will not be locked down, what power does the union have in this battle?
