Dianne Feinstein says no to governor's race
Edited on Wed Feb-17-10 12:33 AM by Newsjock
Source: Los Angeles Times

Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Tuesday ended speculation that she might leave Congress to run for governor.

Feinstein spokesman Gil Duran said the San Francisco Democrat spoke with Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown on Wednesday* morning and informed him she would not get into the race. Brown has yet to declare himself a candidate but has been raising money and is the only major Democrat still considering a run for the state's highest office.

Most observers did not expect that Feinstein would leave her powerful post in the Senate for a gubernatorial bid, but speculation persisted in some quarters, in part because she is a popular figure who could amass a lot of money, including some from her personal fortune.

3. Thank goodness for
small favors. Two Democratic fossils running in the primary would be too much embarrassment to handle.

4. Well, She Ain't Stupid...

The Governor of California is just a notch on the belt for folks these days. California's grid lock makes the Senate look like the fast track. California's 2/3 majority requirements, its long history of electing Republican governors over the past three decades, its voter propositions that mandate both spending and tax cuts...

The dirty little secret is that California really is the Republican nightmare come to life. It is completely ungovernable, which the way Republicans like it.

Maybe there will be some ballot proposition to cut taxes, but mandate spending on law enforcement. Oh wait, that is every year.

9. Meg Whitman Has Been Running Campaign Ads on Prime Time...
They say absolutely nothing, except that she isn't a professional politician, and that she will somehow cut taxes, cut spending, and improve education. Really? She is campaigning like a moderate, and may get elected given her money, but like Schwartznegger, once she is elected, she will pander to the right wing by proposing the abolition of public schools in favor of tax credits for private school.

8. I sure as hell wouldn't want that steaming pile in my lap...
meaning the trainwreck of CA government. Reminds me of a fake headline when Obama won - "USA sticks black man with World's Worst Job" (referring to cleaning up Bush's mess).
