Romney threatened with violence on flight
Source: CNN

(CNN) – Even former presidential candidates are subject to the occasional annoyances of air travel.

A passenger seated in front of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's wife became "physically violent" when the former Republican presidential candidate asked the passenger to move his seat in a more upright position.

The incident occurred Monday when the Romneys were headed from Vancouver, Canada to Los Angeles on an Air Canada flight, according to spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

In a statement to CNN, Fehrnstrom said "Romney did not retaliate, but instead allowed the airline crew to respond to the incident."

2. Yes it pisses you off when the guy in front of you lays his seat all the way back
BUT! Usually one just sits there and thinks to themselves; this sucks. I have never asked anyone to move their seat in a more upright position.

I have seen people put their knees up so the seat in front of them could not recline. If I recline the seat, it is ever so slightly so as to not invade the space of the person behind me.

There is two ugly sides to this story, the rude passenger who laid his seat back and the rude former Presidential candidate (sort of) who couldn't endure a few hours of inconvenience.

People never just keep things to themselves and that is where trouble starts.

5. Umm---I believe that the plane was taking off..
hence the seat is supposed to be upright.

Plus--- Mitt was protected by his magic underwear.

If it was supposed to be upright, why is possible to lay them back?

Magic underwear

8. Agreed, it's annoying but I've never asked them to move their seat
I also recline my seat very little. Do wish more passengers were considerate but I'm not going to hold my breath.

42. Keeping to themeslves is fine, as long as it doesn't effect you
If someone told me to politely move because I was to far back (or in their way of the TV at a football game at the bar), I would say "Sorry about that" and move up, back, or sideways. I'm reasonable enough to think that someone is asking me to move for a very good reason.

Now, if he were to say "Get outta my way jerkoff!" that's a bit different...

obviously we don't know what happened, and neither of us knows Mitt personally. Maybe he's the sweetest guy in the world, maybe he's the biggest douchebag.

But when I look at him, my impression is douchebag and it would not surprise me in the slightest if it turns out that this incident was caused by Romney's douchebaggery.

26. I've been around Mormons
most of my life and am even married to a non practicing Mormon. Romney is completely self absorbed and thinks he walks on water. They are all conservative to the bone. They all think they are better than normal people. Mormons are a bunch of self righteous assholes, trust me. Not worth the air they breath.
On a side note, PBS made a documentary on Mormons if you want to see just how fucked up they are.

PS HARRY REID IS MORMON if that answers any questions.

28. it sounds like
based upon the fact that the "plane returned to the gate", that they hadn't taken off yet therefore the seat sound have been in the upright position.

you are going to find people on flights who firmly believe that the rules don't apply to them and they have to be reminded, more than once, to follow the rules and those jerks usually respond sotto voce with a "f*ck you" when the flight attendant turns their back.

35. The violent passenger was sitting in front of his wife:
maybe Mitt was asking as a courtesy for his wife who complained. Also, it does sound like the plane was on the runway and the seats should probably have been upright & locked anyway. People can be assholes and I can't see how Romney is the asshole in this case, whatever class he was flying.
