'Attack on London is inevitable'
'Attack on London is inevitable'

· Tube, buses and pubs all potential targets, warns Stevens
· Public vigilance urged as huge security effort begins

Rosie Cowan, crime correspondent
Wednesday March 17, 2004
The Guardian

London's police chief warned yesterday of the ever-widening terrorist threat to the capital, stressing that bombers could strike not just on the rail or tube network but virtually anywhere - pubs, nightclubs, buses or roads.

Sir John Stevens, the Metropolitan police commissioner, described the huge security effort, with hundreds of officers working at full stretch to try to prevent an atrocity.

Sir John and the city's mayor, Ken Livingstone, pledged to do everything in their power to protect the public, but they urged Londoners to be on their guard, stressing that community vigilance was the best weapon against terrorism.

Sir John agreed with Mr Livingstone, who said: "It would be miraculous if, with all the terrorist resources arranged against us, terrorists did not get through, and given that some are prepared to give their own lives, it would be inconceivable that someone does not get through to London."

1. Isn't that a "No Duh" news story?
Such amazing western leadership we have, stating the obvious, over, and over, and over...

2. I think we're really in trouble when the only person I've heard so far
even question why this is happening is Robert McNamara. I saw a little of The Fog of War. The one point I totally disagree with him is, 'I'm not naive to say we'll stop wars. Human nature is what it is.' (paraphrase). I really think this is a bad attitude! it's going on the year 2005 and the world should be moving to 'Just Say No to War'. It's disgraceful what Bush has done. But then, it's for all to see. Junior is a psychologically disturbed human. And he should be forced to undergo psychiatric testing.

5. Isn't THAT the truth?
Edited on Wed Mar-17-04 04:36 AM by JudiLyn
We hear more than we care to know when he gets his yearly physical. (Remember that last time they claimed he had gained five pounds, but it was all muscle? Fascinating.)

It would be interesting if they sent him off for his mental health evaluation. He probably wouldn't be allowed to come back.

From the article:

Sir John agreed with Mr Livingstone, who said: "It would be miraculous if, with all the terrorist resources arranged against us, terrorists did not get through, and given that some are prepared to give their own lives, it would be inconceivable that someone does not get through to London."
(snip)

Someone is right. But from what direction would they come? Remember, the impressive Operation Northwoods was conceived right here. IF the Joint Chiefs all signed it, and it was put aside for the moment, are we to imagine people like them in successive years would NEVER resort to that kind of plotting, ever again?

4. I can see two time frames when this could happen
1. In the week or so preceding the European elections on June 10 (perhaps accompanied by similar actions in other EU states).

2. During the European Social Forum in October.

6. Madrid bomb suspect linked to UK extremists
Found this in the Guardian you posted. Can't understand if they imagine they are serious or not:

Madrid bomb suspect linked to UK extremists

Richard Norton-Taylor and Rosie Cowan
Wednesday March 17, 2004
The Guardian

The Metropolitan police and security services were last night investigating links between a prime suspect in the Madrid bombings and Islamist extremists in London.

A senior police source told the Guardian there were definite links between terrorists in the two cities. Intelligence officers also believe that Jamal Zougam, arrested by Spanish police in connection with the bombings, has contacts with a number of individuals of north African origin who are at large in the UK.

"It is known there are well-established links to Spain and north Africa," said a well-placed source, referring to individuals in Britain.

But security sources are reluctant to go into detail, and they dismiss what they say are exaggerated suggestions that the Spanish inquiry is being "exported" to Britain.

9. The Bush repetition is
"2/3 of known Al Qaeda leadership has been killed or captured."
By sticking the word "known" in there they can BS the public.

10. So why isn't someone rebutting with - SO WHY ARE THERE STILL
ATTACKS? What you are (bush is) doing IS NOT making us safer. And we GOT Saddam. It made no difference.
