According to a statement from the company, 200 employees volunteered to be laid off immediately after the company asked Monday. An additional 400 workers received notice Monday that they will be laid off in two days. Company officials still have not determined the total number of employees that could eventually be laid off.
The union's contract expired at midnight Sunday, and the 942 members of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 1594, are working without a contract during the negotiations, union president Larry Seay said. SNE Enterprises is a privately owned manufacturer of vinyl and wood windows and doors. With 1,400 employees at the company's headquarters in Mosinee, it's one of Marathon County's largest employers.

"It hurts the family, especially the children in the family when there is not enough food on the table," says Mosinee resident Peter Danczyk.
Mosinee Mayor Bob Feit says the lay-offs could have a big impact on Mosinee's economy. Feit says SNE is a main anchor to the community.
"If 600 people are laid off permanently, it would be a big impact on our community and the area," Feit says.
