Obama to Senate Democrats: Don't fret about your jobs

By David Lightman | McClatchy Newspapers

WASHINGTON — A feisty but occasionally frustrated President Barack Obama tried Wednesday to calm nervous Senate Democrats about their political futures and prospects for passing major legislation, as he urged them to keep pushing hard for solutions to the nation's most vexing problems.

"The American people are out of patience with business as usual," he told a Senate Democrats' issues conference. "They're fed up with a Washington that has become so absorbed with who's up and who's down that we've lost sight of how they're doing.

"They want us to start worrying less about keeping our jobs and more about helping them keep their jobs."

Obama's 75-minute meeting was a combination pep talk and down-to-earth question-and-answer session with worried lawmakers. Congress so far this year has been far less eager to move forward to finish large 2009 initiatives such as health care overhaul and climate change legislation, preferring smaller, more careful steps.

1. Good glad he said it!
Do your job that you have AT the moment to the best of your ability. They told their 'employers' they would do their job in a certain way . . . They should do it the way they said they would or go.

I'm honestly beginning to believe in term limits. If they knew they could ONLY be there once or twice - I wonder what they would do?

It seems the only ones who have the cajones to do the job they promised to do aren't even in the Senate. I'm talking about Weiner and Grayson. Imagine what we could have accomplished this past year if EVERY Dem in congress behaved the way they did? And their behavior is STELLAR.

2. This is the Obama we thought we elected.
I'm so happy to see the change. Now if the President just keeps the straight talk up, we will all be fine.

I wonder whether Ed Schultz's discussion with Robert Gibbs woke some people including the President up.

It makes sense to me.
