Powell Favors Repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’
By PETER BAKER

Gen. Colin L. Powell, who as the nation’s top military officer in the 1990s opposed allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly in the military, switched gears today and threw his support behind efforts to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” law he helped shepherd in.
Gen. Colin L. PowellStephen Chernin/Associated Press Gen. Colin L. Powell in December.

“In the almost 17 years since the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ legislation was passed, attitudes and circumstances have changed,” General Powell said in a statement issued by his office. He added: “I fully support the new approach presented to the Senate Armed Services Committee this week by Secretary of Defense Gates and Admiral Mullen.”

1. There is a reason why they call him The Sponge.
He always did what his master's told him to do. Now in his dotage he wants forgiveness. F him.

2. Well McCain will have to drop Colin Powell's name from the list of people who
agree with him on DADT. I think it was yesterday when he was saying "I agree with everyone from Colin Powell..." Anybody remaining, John?

7. I'm glad I read your post first
because I was going to say the same thing. Maybe McCain should have discussed the matter with Powell first. Well
president want-to-be McCain will have to decide which name he'll drop next for someone that agrees with him.

13. We're not the only ones thinking along those lines -- another DUer posted
the same sentiment. I guess we're all just feeling a little smug that McCain's been spanked again. I'm eagerly awaiting the question "Senator McCain, you said you were relying on Colin Powell's expertise in this area. He has now endorsed repealing DADT -- are you now changing your stance on this issue?" Squirm. Squirm. I can hardly wait!! :hi:

6. Always willing to get out in front and lead, isn't he?
:eyes:

How much harm has this unprincipled man caused to America, and to the world?

I'm sorry, but I just can't bring myself to feel anything positive about Colin Powell. His pangs of conscience always come years too late.

8. Day late, dollar short.

Closing the barn door after the animals have left.

He's more reactive ...then proactive.

11. General Irrelevant.
Somehow he always winds up supporting the party in power and always acts like that was what he really believed all along.
