Senate Democrats Eye $80 Billion Package To Boost Jobs
Source: NASDAQ

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Senate Democratic leaders are eyeing legislation to jumpstart the economy by spending in the neighborhood of $80 billion on infrastructure projects, tax credits for small businesses and hiring public service workers.

Democratic leaders are preparing to pitch a broad outline of the plan to the full Senate Democratic caucus on Tuesday during their weekly lunch. It comes as the White House and congressional Democrats seek to re-focus their efforts on fighting unemployment and a sluggish economic recovery.

The package would be paid for largely by re-directing funds that were available for the government's bank bailout program, according to an outline dated Friday of possible measures being considered for inclusion in the bill.

The Senate document put the total cost of economic stimulus measures in the bill at $82.5 billion. A Senate Democratic aide cautioned that the document doesn't reflect the most recent conversations among leaders about the plan, and some elements may change considerably.

given what we had for the last 8 years

and given that teabaggers are assholes who should never be allowed into public office - anywhere

11. I want to see Democrats elected too...
Democrats with a spine who stand up and fight, not run for cover every time a Bonyer or McConnell or someone of that ilk stand up braying on the MSM. Scott f&^%$#n Brown didn't win Mass because Washington wasn't conservative enough. The people who upset the apple cart weren't republican assholes and teabaggers; there were just enough pi$$ed off liberals and progressives who either stayed home or voted for Brown because they wanted to send a simple message. Ignore me and the reasons I worked my ass of to get you elected once too often and I will hand you your own on a platter.

Interesting. Democrats are getting attack on LBN for spending money, as well as pledging to address the deficit in the future.

President Obama to Push 3-Year Spending Freeze on Non-Security Discretionary Spending
In his budget for Fiscal Year 2011, to be presented on Monday, February 1, President Obama will propose a three-year hard freeze on non-security discretionary spending, to last from 2011 through 2013.

This will save $250 billion over the next decade, senior administration officials told reporters.

15. Regarding firefighters and EMTs, I'm with you...
...but I won't be shedding any tears over fewer cops.

Considering the direction this country is headed with exploding police brutality/sociopathy, torturers getting off scot-free, fascism on the rise, a judiciary willing to shit on the Constitution whenever it serves their corporate masters, a fast-growing prison-industrial-complex, civil liberties under continual attack by all three branches of government, and a rapidly expanding surveillance society... with all of this as a backdrop, any reduction in the number of police is fine by me. I value both my freedom and my safety, and both will be better served with fewer cops. We need just enough cops to deal with the genuine bad-actors, so maybe when we stop reading about the tasing of grandmothers, or arrests of five-year olds, or ________ (fill in the blank)... maybe then we'll have reduced their numbers enough. But as things now stand, (and as things appear to be headed) a weaker police force is something we should be cheering, IMO. As the corps continue to tighten the screws on us, it will eventually be us against them.

So I think it's time progressives make a distinction between firefighters/EMTs and cops when we speak of funding cuts. The former deserve our strong support. The latter is slowly morphing into an army of oppressors not too much different than Blackwater.

12. Uh, do what now? Tax cuts and the resulting contraction have ruined our country.
We need to spend money. A new 'new deal' would perfect right about now. Bail outs for banks and insurance companies, however, can wait.

16. unlike W's trillion dollar wars and multi-trillion dollar bank bailouts
after all, gotta keep killing and keep the multi-million dollar bonuses flowing to our financial overlords.

God forbid we should spend a little bit on education, health care, the public infrastructure, etc. better to let that all that new deal nonsense to all come a'tumblin' down. :eyes:

Oh, and welcome little freeper. Get mixed up and turn left by accident? Now why don't you go home and play with toys and lil boys your own age. This is a grownups conversation...bit over your lil pinhead.

13. Yeah, but those guys were rich, which makes them better than us, and therefore more deserving.
We are expected to show undying gratitude for anything we get, no matter how miserly, as we are unworthy. Got it?

21. Or 8 trillion Cake crumbs.
Look, I have a solution to all of this.

Every person should just claim themselves as a Corporation.

then we are SURE to be treated better.

See, problem solved.

Then I bet we could sponsor some Bowl games, get our own stadiums, and maybe even hand pick leaders that will serve OUR interests.

is reserved for the discretionary spending cuts, homeland security and the pentagon excepted.
