Sarah Palin to Contribute to Fox "News"
Edited on Mon Jan-11-10 01:11 PM by Ian David
Source: NY Times

Former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska has signed on as a contributor to the Fox News Channel.

The network confirmed that Ms. Palin will appear on the network’s programming on a regular basis as part of a multi-year deal. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Ms. Palin will not have her own regular program, one person familiar with the deal said, though she will host an occasional series that will run on the network from time to time. This person would not elaborate, but the network does have a precedent for such a series. Oliver L. North is the host of an occasionally running documentary series on the military called “War Stories.”

Many suspected that when Ms. Palin retired as the governor of Alaska last summer she was doing so to pursue some sort of career in television. The Fox News deal, however, would not seem to be all encompassing, and would appear to give her room for other pursuits, as well.

64. Actually, no
That's their AUDIENCE you're talking about. The people in FRONT of the camera are usually carefully selected to deliver propaganda. Palin fits the profile of a Fox VIEWER, but not a Fox COMMENTATOR. That's why I think she's not going to actually appear very often, and why they're not giving her her own show.

This is more of an effort to control Palin than to boost her.

41. No, she was a sports reporter for a station in Anchorage.
Somehow, this got twisted into "weather girl" in a viral email intended to point out the difference between her qualifications for vice president/president and Obama's. Either someone got it completely wrong, or they thought "weather girl" would make her sound like more of a bimbo than "sportscaster" and decided to run with the lie.

42. He wasn't on "Christmas break" last week. Friday was the only day he took off.
And he's taken off a lot of Fridays during football season while doing his Sunday-night job on Football Night. This past weekend he had to be on for a half hour on Saturday afternoon. I expect we'll see him back five nights a week after football is over, unless his father's health dictates otherwise.

27. Right where she belongs and mutually beneficial. FAUX gets another
empty head to spout lies and nonsense. Palin gets a forum to spout the lies and nonsense. Perfect.

As an aside, I have an old high school acquaintance I'd always suspected was a right wing loony. This year her Christmas card letter included this gem. "My passion is politics and I keep informed by watching FOX news." Pitiful beyond belief, but I suppose some people enjoy being willfully ignorant and truly stupid. I'm sure she'll get many insights from the Alaskan whack job.

in movies. OR maybe a TV Movie of the Week. Politics was just her entry. Like Newt, she's failed up. (Newt was refused tenure while a college history instructor). She couldn't get a job in TV journalism. So, she entered politics. What she wants is to be a star. When she looks in the mirror, she sees Meg Ryan.

60. Ms Palin will not have her own regular show--NO S#!T
Ya think?
The more Palin talks, the more of an embarrassment to movement conservatism she becomes. Therefore, do you really think anybody at Fox News would PAY Palin to blather on like an idiot for an hour a day?

This is a bribe to shut her up, pure and simple. My guess is she's getting a HUGE check from the corporate welfare machine, for which she'll only have to make a token appearence on Hannity's and O'Reilly's shows maybe once a month. She'll appear on screen, not in the studio, because that way she can be reading her talking points off of a teleprompter. Under absolutely no circumstances will she be permitted to "wing it." That will be stipulated in her contract.

She'll get this money in exchange for:

NOT speaking off the cuff to reporters while hillbillies are slashing the throats of turkeys in the background.
NOT making up cute Palinisms like "only dead fish go with the flow."
NOT shouting spontaneous answers "across an area" that directly contradict her party's official position on various issues.
and above all
NOT running off and forming a third party that will syphon votes away from the GOP.

If all these years of Palin acting like a complete idiot, and running around being an embarrassment to the GOP were designed to get her a fat contract from Fox News to STFU, I applaud her cunning.

Edited on Mon Jan-11-10 05:54 PM by steven johnson
http://www.politifact.com/ named Sarah Palin "Liar of the Year."

The Truth-o-Meter is going to get a workout here.

http://sarahpalintruthsquad.wordpress.com/ will also be busy.

71. She may contribute to Fox.
She'll contribute nothing to news.

But, then, the same is true, of course, of Faux News itself.

Too bad the video of Victoria Jackson on SNL Weekend Update is not available on Youtube.

79. I plan to ignore this completely
It's no big deal. She will either try to be buddy-buddy with her wingnut pals or she will try to out-stupid the stupids (Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity). Who cares? Considering how loathsome Fox already is, she really can't make it that much worse. She is not as good at anger as O'Reilly, she can't trumpet talking points with the righteous indignation of Hannity (though they are equally mindless), and Beck has shot himself into a whole new crazy galaxy (he beat her to it). She will come on, spew some nonsense just like Gingrich, Morris, Coulter, Malkin, or North, and then be gone. We'll all be disgusted by what she says, but we already were anyway.

If she was hoping to use this as a way to stay in the public eye for a presidential run, it won't work. She will be preaching to her choir, but she won't be doing anything to help her cause with the centrists. I actually think this means she has no plans to run in 2012. I think somewhere someone with some sense informed her she would be crushed. Better to go to the shrill network and make some money for being nuts than get destroyed in an election.

80.  We should get a pool on how long she will last in this role!
She does not want to follow any rules, she couldn't follow the Repug rules running for VP.

Don't they have some rule about face time on the air during a campaign?

82. Meet the Next President
"I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News. It's wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news," Ms Palin said in the Fox News statement.

Brilliant move on the part of the Regressives. This keeps her in the limelight, and, with someone talking into her ear, she will appear less ignorant, intolerant, and stupid than she is.

It can always get worse.

85. What do you expect from a channel that employs criminals like Oliver North?
I'm surprised people are even surprised by *anything* Fox does, including all of Beck's antics, after they hired Iran-Contra criminal North. Even seeing his name in the article makes me mad. North and Karl Rove: how many criminals can one network employ?
