Powell says nations will not 'sit by idly' while Iran pursing nuclear ambitions

WASHINGTON – Secretary of State Colin Powell put Iran on notice Sunday that other countries will not "just sit by idly" while Tehran pursues building nuclear weapons.

Iran announced Saturday it was indefinitely barring international inspections of its nuclear program. The move was a protest by a resolution by the U.N. atomic agency's governing body that censured Tehran for hiding suspicious activities.

"We're worried about Iran and we have brought a great deal of international pressure to bear," Powell said.

Iran insists its nuclear activities are for the generation of electricity. The United States suspects Iran is undertaking a secret program to build nuclear weapons.
