Tape Claims al-Qaida Tied to Spain Blasts
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 07:51 PM by sweet_scotia
"We declare our responsibility for what happened in Madrid exactly 2 1/2 years after the attacks on New York and Washington," said the man, according to a government translation of the tape, which was recorded in Arabic. "It is a response to your collaboration with the criminals Bush and his allies."

Al-Qaeda "claims Madrid bombings"

Al-Qaeda has allegedly said it carried out the Madrid train bombings, the country's interior minister has said.
Angel Acebes said police had recovered a videotape in which a man identifying himself as al-Qaeda's military spokesman in Europe makes the claim.
The minister says the authenticity of the video has not been verified.
His announcement comes hours after Spanish authorities arrested five suspects in connection with the blasts which killed 200 people.

For decades, the BBC has been a traditional source of news and information for those who live in countries without a free and independent press. That is why this American living in the age of Bush and corporatism turns to the BBC online.

2. Moroccans and *INDIANS*? WTF?
Edited on Sat Mar-13-04 07:57 PM by KeepItReal
"Earlier, Spain arrested three Moroccans and two Indians in connection with the attacks Thursday that killed 200 people and wounded 1,500."

Why do I think they meant "Pakistanis" instead of Indians? I don't think Al Qaeda has a Hindu wing... Yes I know there are Muslim Indians, but what would be their motivation for targeting Spanish Citizens?

Maybe the arrests are just a red herring...
