Passenger tells of stopping terror suspect
Source: NBC, msnbc.com and news services

A pop and puff of smoke was all it took for the passenger to react, jumping across an aisle on Northwest 253 to subdue a would-be terrorist.

"I didn't think. I just went over there to try to save the plane," Jasper Schuringa of Amsterdam told CNN.

As passengers on Flight 253 screamed "fire, fire" on Friday, Schuringa said he figured the suspect was "trying to blow up the plane."

I guess that's why I've had such a hard time in life. But that's another story.

12. 80 grams PETN
Investigators say the suspect had more than 80 grams of PETN, a compound related to nitro-glycerin used by the military. The so-called shoe bomber, Richard Reid, had only about 50 grams kin his failed attempt in 2001 to blow up a U.S.-bound jet. Yesterday’s bomb failed because the detonator may have been too small or was not in “proper contact” with the explosive material, investigators told ABC News.

22. If he was trying to mix a binary explosive
The guys who recruited him already know how to do it, this was a case of "operator error".

The trick is finding someone stupid enough to tape the ingredients to their crotch yet smart enough to follow the directions when it comes to mixing, the waiting period and affixing the detonator.

23. thankfully, a lot of bombs fail to go off
when you think about it, there are a LOT of people alive because bombers so often fail with their devices.

columbine... (they had many devices that didn't go off. would have killed a lot more people), the recent seattle car bombing by monford (who later shot 2 seattle cops... he set some secondary devices to go off when the cops/firemen responded to the police cars he lit on fire), this incident, and several others i have heard of.

25. Is anyone asking WHY this guy got through security?`
During all the probulation and bullshit I had to go through on my recent visit back to california (and back to holland) I wondered if any of this actually stopped ONE fucking terrorist.

I guess the answer is NO!!!!!

Looks like all this is just to keep US in line.

Who gives a fuck about the actual safety of the passengers!

and for my buur man:

Goed gedaan joh! Ik ben harstikke trots aan je!

44. Well, it is one of the world's most difficult languages
to learn. The grammatical refinement and subtle nuances in the vocabulary make it so. (And then the assortment of fricatives and dual vowels adds another difficulty to the pronunciation of the Dutch language.)

Aan = To
Op = On

26. UPDATE from Dutch News
http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2009/12/extra_security_at_schiphol_aft.php>

it would seem this guy got on in Nigeria, and was able to by-pass security that way.

However what I'm confused about is that you have to go through security at EVERY port at Schipol Airport.
That is no shoes, etc anytime you get in to the boarding area.

So im still confused as to how this person's shoes were not scanned.

34. That one up for us Dutchies!
Recently on a popular Dutch blog, there was discussion about an event in Utah. An American guy had given a Dutch friend of his a knife for a present. The Dutch guy returned the knife, because he didn't want a weapon as a gift.
Wasn't a big knife, but that was not the point of the discussion. This act kind of relates to that. The only people in Holland who carry knifes (or guns, for that matter) and use them in public, are not the kind of people who would step up and be a hero.

He not only saved the people on the plane, I realised, but maybe a lot of people on the grond as well.

36. When it comes right down to it he should be considered a hero of the planet earth
Edited on Sun Dec-27-09 10:17 AM by madokie
We should all be working on a unified world instead of a divided one like we have now with a small percentage of the worlds population controlling all the rest of us and many of those in the ruling class have intentions that have noting to do with our well being as a whole.

Yes the man is a Hero.

40. I'm surprised nobody is saying they thought he was masturbating
He sounds like an absolute stooge. Returns from the bathroom after twenty minutes, covers himself with a blanket, and proceeds to go through the motions of trying to ignite explosives that are sewn into his underwear. I'm sure to the casual observer it would have looked like he was pleasuring himself.
