Millions Protest Over Spain Bombs, ETA Denies Blame
By Andrew Cawthorne
MADRID (Reuters) - Millions of grieving Spaniards poured into the streets crying "cowards" and "killers" on Friday as Basque separatist group ETA denied responsibility for the Madrid bombings that killed nearly 200 people.

As darkness fell, two million in Madrid alone joined a mass protest, whistling, banging drums, carrying black crosses or candles, and waving placards saying "No More Killing."

12. It's Spain's 9/11, like Australia's in Bali and
surely done by the same interests.

Did you know that Al Qaeda worked/s for the CIA?

19. ?
Where in the post you were responding to did the poster say anything about the CIA being "behind every bombing in the world"? It wasn't even implied.

The lack of substance, broad-brush tactics and contemptuous tone of the majority of your posts is becoming tedious.

22. I don't know how you
can claim post 18 is grounds for you to rest your case. In all fairness, if you were to be honest with yourself, post 18 makes reference to one specific attack - not "every bombing in the world".

If you disagree with another poster's view, why don't you try civilized counter-argument, rather than super-generalized, dismissive insults?

15. Is there any reason we can't blame bush for this tragedy?
The fact that Spain sided with the US made them a target. No?

One more piece of ammo to use against bush.

18. and recently Spain has not been so enthusiastic
about the war. This attack puts them back in the pool of nations who are victims of Al Qaeda.

I'd say this is probably another CIA job using Emmanuel Goldstein/Al Qaeda. But who knows for sure.

I find that hard to believe.

24. I know it is weird, but I've found out about the Al
Qaeda link to the CIA in the Balkans and Halliburton's "Trans Balkan pipeline" and Osama himself in that region as shown by Michel Chossodovsky. Then the reality that all of the money traced to Al Qaeda leads to Saudi Arabia and ex-FBI boss John O'Neill saying that the Saudis are behind the terrorist bombings while he investigated the USS Cole bombing. Even the Bali bombings investigated by the Aussies found the money trail led back to Saudi Arabia and then the Aussies coming on board to fight in Iraq.

Combine that with the bin Laden connection to the Bushies and the fact that no Al Qaeda have been prosecuted, only secretly detained in Cuba, or, at least that is what we are told, and it isn't hard to see the possibility of links. It just is too unbelievable that no Al Qaeda have been definitively identified and brougth to justice. IMO it is all about creating fear and terror to justify curtailing rights.Bush has no other option if he means to stay in power; fear is cumulative and it can be ratcheted up in so many ways; it freaks me to think of how easy it is to manipulate the masses.

21. Will protests convince the bombers to stop bombing?
Will the terrorists heed to protests or retribution?

25. It's not a "protest" - it's a public reaffirmation of common values
It's a public, common and visible statement of humanity.

It's a variation on waving flags here, post 9/11: instead of symbols that refer to "identity" (which is under constant debate in Spain) people came out from all walks of life and any and all convictions to stand together, and express support for the Constitutional values in a Democracy.

It's flipping a collective bird at the terrorists.

And Spaniards do carry their soul on their sleeves: to wit, the annual ritual of processions. It's a different mindset.
