UK Met Office to publish climate records
Source: CNN

London, England (CNN) -- The UK's weather service, the Met Office is to publish station temperature records that make up the global land surface temperature record.

Professor John Mitchell, director of climate science at the Met Office told CNN: "We are releasing the data to reassure people that climate data is sound."

The data includes information from more than 1000 stations worldwide and will be published online next week.

The Met Office said it was publishing a subset of the full HadCRUT record of global temperatures -- that's one of a handful of global temperature data sets that underpin the assessments of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Nice move by the Brits. "You doubt our data, mate? Well, here it is. Tell us what you find wrong with it."

Expect the Web to be flooded with charts and graphs showing the warming trend in new and imaginative ways, once activists get done crunching the whole dataset.

1. You call insane hysterical denialists "activists"?
Interesting.

6. A hell of a lot more sane
than creationists. At least global warming advocates have the facts.

2. I honestly don't think scientists realized
what they were up against.

A few whacko denialists, easily exposed, yes.

Even a massively funded effort to sow doubt, use doubletalk, quote things out of context, or deliberately misunderstand them. yes.

This kind of attack, hacking emails, and cherry-picking phrases with world-wide publicity efforts, no.

Anti-intellectualism at it's finest, and apparently scientists didn't see it coming.

Well, why would they? It's the 21st century, right?

Right?

4. Nobody takes creationists seriously anymore.
The scientists probably didn't realize that a new wave of creationism had started, with a different name.

5. I think it's going to come down to questions about how the instruments or scales are calibrated.
Most cutting-edge science usually does. And those questions are often hard to answer, even by the people who built the instrument.

Just guessing.
