Spain's PP Suspends Election Campaign After Blasts

MADRID (Reuters) - Spain's ruling Popular Party (PP) suspended its campaign for Sunday's general election after a series of bombs tore through crowded passenger trains on Thursday killing some 131 people, its leader Mariano Rajoy said.


"Spain is in mourning. These criminal terrorists are sowing death and suffering not just in Madrid but in the whole of Spain," Rajoy, the party's prime ministerial candidate, told a news conference.


Authorities blamed the attacks on Basque separatist group ETA, which is listed as a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union (news - web sites). The pre-election attacks would be the worst ever by the separatist group.

Under no circumstances will I accept any reason for suspending the November election in the US. I don't care if there is a nuclear holocaust in the US, THE ELECTION MUST GO ON! If we could hold elections during the War of 1812, the Civil War and WWII, we must hold an election even during the "War on Terrorism". If this government cancels the November election, it is no longer legitimate.

...but this could happen here in the U.S. Wouldn't BushCo revile at the idea that having stolen the election of 2000, another crisis before the election could give the White House completed authority to suspend our election. That would be a first for this country, would it not?:scared:
