Bush ignores ad row by attending Sept 11 ceremony
~SNIP~

By Alec Russell in Washington

President George W Bush yesterday brushed aside criticism that his re-election campaign was exploiting the September 11 attacks when he took part in a ground-breaking ceremony for a memorial to victims before attending a fund-raising dinner.

Accompanied by the skirl of bagpipers playing Amazing Grace, Mr Bush was among the first to dig a shovel into the ground at a park in Nassau County, a suburb of New York which lost nearly 300 people in the attacks on the World Trade Centre.

The White House and the local organisers of the memorial said it was a family event and not linked to accusations by Democrats and some families of September 11 victims that Mr Bush was capitalising on the tragedy.

The launch of Mr Bush's re-election campaign was overshadowed last week when his team found itself having to defend the use of film of the Twin Towers in political advertisements.

2. OK. So if it wasn't another photo-op.

Why not leave the cameras at home? Be with the families, hug them. But don't use the footage for your political campaign then try to claim it wasn't a photo-op. The fact it will be used, and George W. Bush is a lying, soulless SOB goes without saying. :grr:

"Have I said yet today how much I DESPISE these people?" M.M.

4. did anyone else notice
that there was some sort of barrier between the ground and his feet?

For days now, the job at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County has been to follow the order from the White House through the Secret Service and down to the park workers:

"The president's feet are not to touch the dirt."

7. So when will the military deaths
be considered "family events". Or do 3 thousand have to die for a Bush to show up?

Do these idiots have any idea what they sound like?

9. Meanwhile
back at the ranch. The Aristide coup more and more baldfaced and ugly. The South Korean impeachment of another Bush target- whatever the cost. Repressive measures pushed forward against the airways. Tons of other Bush stuff simmering to a boil.

Has he become his own frantic distraction or are these desperate, rushed incidents where the US gaze(government or media) seems averted irrationally? or is it vice versa? Or both?

This is going to be a loooooong year and I don't mean the fake whining about campaign ads and active voter discouragement by the crust of the half-baked American establishment.
