Democrats Unite Around Kerry
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/03/11/politics/main605503.shtml

Former Gov. Howard Dean will not hand over his list of about 700,000 donors to either Sen. John Kerry's campaign or to the Democratic National Committee, sources close to Dean tell CBSNews.com.

Dean spokesman Jay Carson would only say, "We are going to use the list in whatever way is most productive for the senator and the party."

However, that use does not consist of handing over the list, largely because such actions may dissuade Dean's donors from further contributions. On Wednesday, Kerry met with Dean for about an hour in Washington, D.C.

"During the campaign, we often focused on what divided us, but the truth is we have much more in common, beginning with our fervent desire to send George Bush back to Crawford, Tex.," read a statement from Dean, released following the meeting.

1. They shouldn't just hand over the list
I didn't give my name to Dean so that he could give it away. He called on my to support Kerry, so I have.

Kerry has me on his list own contributors now, anyway. :)

I feel the same way
Kerry has to earn my support and my name -

only when I agree will that happen.

I'm glad that Dean is remaining true to those who supported him.

Kerry appears stronger by the day - by borrowing the stands that we supported Dean for - and when he finally "gets" it, that's when he can have my support.

2. Agree with you completely on that...
...and I've been for Kerry from the start. Turning over that list would have been wrong.

4. I want Dean to keep his list and organization...
and reform the Democrat Party, like he said. There will be other elections, and we need to have candidates that do not have to rely on corporate funds to compete.

Then they will be working for us, not some corporate fatcat.

This may be Howards most enduring legacy, outside of helping to beat Bushwhacker.

5. And Dean shouldn't hand it over, because ...
not all of us who donated gave him permission for such use of our contact info. No, I wouldn't personally mind, but others might. In this country, there is entirely too much selling, trading, loaning, and giving of info on people without their explicit consent.

That said, Dean should use the list to support Kerry however ethically possible.

6. I agree with you all and I donated to Kerry and not to Dean
I wouldn't like it if my information was given away. I realize it could happen, but I'd prefer that it did not.

7. I'm glad most of you feel this way
Other candidates, however, are giving their lists to Kerry. I don't have the article handy, but if you supported someone else other than Dean or Kerry and don't want your name and info to Kerry, I'd check into it if I were you.

I know a few candidates were mentioned, but I don't want to name people without proof.

I'm supporting Kerry now, but I'd be hopping mad if my info was given away without having any say in the matter.

8. Perhaps Kerry should give HIS list to Dean!
Anyway- who cares who has what lists- so long as they are effectivly being used to GOTV...

Kerry & Dean are both capable of that...
