Newtering DeLay is Dems’ aim
By Hans Nichols

House Democratic leaders are honing an election strategy to taint the entire Republican caucus by demonizing Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Texas).

By running against DeLay, much as they ran against Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) in 1996 and 1998, the Democrats believe they can damage centrist GOP members in potential swing districts that could determine who controls the House.

The strategy, which is based on the belief that DeLay is regarded as an extremist in many GOP-leaning districts, was previewed to lawmakers last week at a leadership luncheon by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

2. Newt led in the wrong direction, while DeLay is reptilian evil....
Raising DeLay's profile, and exposing him to the public is an excellent idea.

3. Speaking of Newt, does anyone have a link to his vocabulary list?
I'd like a copy of the list he made up instructing his operatives to substitute demonizing words for descriptive ones. Like the old feminist observation that a man is "decisive" but a woman is "a ball breaker," only lots worse.

8. Thanks -- now I can write like Newt, too!
"...we have heard a plaintive plea: 'I wish I could speak like
Newt.' That takes years of practice." (Newt Gingrich)

Well here goes:

My fellow Murkins. I come before you to speak about the "abuse of power" by the residents of the White House. This "anti-jobs" administration has "betrayed" us all with their "bizarre" "patronage" and political "machine." Let me assure you, "compassion is not enough." The "consequences" of this "shameless" "corruption," this "self-serving" "cynicism" are evident in the "decay" of civil discourse, the "radical" "intolerance" of any opposing viewpoint.

It would be "pathetic" and "sick" if it were not so "threatening."

{Hey, this is fun. Kind of like a Chinese menu: one from column A, two from column B.}

This "radical" "ideology" with its emphasis on "spending" the federal government into bankruptcy, "criminal rights" for corporate "bosses," rewarding "greed" and "punishing" whistleblowers, is a "disgrace" and "endangers" the "welfare" of our nation! "Their" "hypocrisy" knows no "limits"! "They" "lie", "cheat", and "steal" from our children's and grandchildren's futures. Citizens, hear me out! "They" are "traitors"!

{Gee, that was fun in a rather "shallow" and "self-serving" way. Giving the devil his due, we know that ol' Newt is anything but "incompetent" at what he does. I "urgently" hope that we can make him and his "selfish" "machine" completely "obsolete" come November.
In "their" "hypocrisy" "they" want us all to pray in public places. Here's mine: May "they" wake up every morning for the rest of their lives "sick" with "shame" for laying "waste" to our country's political landscape.}

7. DENY DELAY
There's many a Texan out here in Lone Star Land that would LOVE to see some light shed on this right wing wacko. America needs to know who he is and how powerful he has become. It's about time.
