Kerry: GOP Critics 'Crooked, Lying Group'
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&ncid=703&e=2&u=/ap/20040310/ap_on_el_pr/kerry

WASHINGTON - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) on Wednesday called for deeper tax cuts for the middle class than proposed by President Bush (news - web sites) and described his Republican critics as "the most crooked ... lying group I've ever seen."

After urging labor leaders to support his campaign to oust the president, Kerry was meeting with former rival Howard Dean (news - web sites) to discuss a possible endorsement and what role the former Vermont governor might play in his campaign. Kerry was scheduled to meet with another key rival, John Edwards (news - web sites), on Thursday.

Anticipating their meeting, the Bush campaign issued "Howard Dean's Greatest Hits on John Kerry," a 10-item recounting of Dean criticism of his rival for the nomination. The quotes from news stories include Dean's statement in January that "you're not going to change America by nominating somebody who's a Washington insider whose biggest long suit is talk."

Kerry had 1,985 delegates after sweeping four Southern primaries Tuesday, an Associated Press analysis showed. He wasn't expected to reach 2,162, the number needed to secure the nomination, until later this month because of the way the party allocates delegates.

12. His campaigning style mimics Bill Clinton's. Seriously
Clinton was one of the toughest I have seen. He could verbally stick the shiv right in you and do it in a way he could get away with it. Its the art of politics. It appears that Kerry is also well versed in this art.

23. I think so.
Remember Clinton basically ignored all the slurs hurled against him during the campaigns and during his years in office. Not only is Kerry not ignoring his enemies' lies, he's responding so forcefully that he humiliates them. This is not a man who tolerates bullshit.

25. Clinton was more like a puppy dog
who wanted everybody to like him and he is incredibly charming.

Kerry is a much more serious, no nonsense sort of person and it seems he's willing to call a spade, a spade. We need someone who is willing to stand up to Bu$hCo and tell it like it is. Nothing wrong with speaking the truth.

41. Yes I know all that
And I'm no fan of him either really. But to call him the worst of the lot is truly puzzling to me. Wolf Blitzer is a bigger Bush cheerleader by far than Lou is. CNN is absolutely RIFE with simpering twits who endlessly espouse the benefits of the Bush admin. I disagree with Lou quite often but, especially lately, he has shown that whatever his personal politics are he can at least think his way out of a paper bag and communicate same in a reasonably literate fashion.

Furthermore for some time now just about ALL he talks about are the issues caused by "free trade" versus "fair trade", particularly the outsourcing of jobs. I'm afraid I still don't understand why you single him out as the worst.

44. He's also pro jobs. He hasn't abandoned all his principles for Shrub.
He's hammering outsourcing and lamenting the jobless recovery.

I'm not a fan of his, but I respect the fact that he adheres to his politics more than his politicians, something most of he Bush constituents aren't able to do.

Edited on Wed Mar-10-04 03:44 PM by Gloria
version from what I wrote on another thread today which was discussing Kerry's challenge for a debate every month....

Drip drip drip of challenges escalates into Bush on the defensive

I hope Kerry is just warming up the use of his prosecutorial skills....he has a reputation of having been a really tough prosecutor....let the S.O.B. in you shine, Mr. Kerry.....

28. Talk radio spin
Talk radio wingnut Michael Medvid (sp) is coming out spinning this as another Kerry blunder. Stating that his capaign is run sloppy and his chances keep decreasing with each blunder.

The truth hurts!!

I actually think that the talking heads on radio constant criticism help Kerry, in that the the choir must think that with all the negative (from them) this guy is still charging on. With little dent in the poll numbers. Oh...then again they do not think!!

31. If they were not so crooked and lying,
then their whining about 'positive' message would not be so laughable.

Incidentally, Kerry's domestic agenda is starting to sound kindasortasomewhat a little Clarkish:

In a speech to top leaders of the AFL-CIO, Kerry said a "Bush Tax"
stemming from the president's economic policies has driven up costs for
working families. He vowed to reverse that trend while asking those
making more than $200,000 a year to pay the same taxes they paid
under President Clinton (news - web sites), effectively repealing portions
of a tax cut Bush pushed through Congress.

Kerry also proposed creating a $50 billion fund to help states provide
relief from state and local taxes for working families that he said have
been struggling.

"Under George Bush's policies, middle-class families are paying more,"
he said. "America's middle class can't afford a tax increase. That's why
we're going to give the middle class a tax cut."

Personally, I hope he considers every idea in the Clark book because they are great and winning.
