Islamist dies in FBI Detroit raid
Source: BBC News

The leader of a radical fundamentalist Islamic group has been shot dead in an FBI raid near the US city of Detroit, officials say.

Luqman Ameen Abdullah, 53, died in a firefight with agents in Dearborn after refusing to surrender, the FBI says.

The agency said it was trying to arrest Mr Abdullah and 10 followers on charges including conspiracy to sell stolen goods and illegal arms possession.

The FBI says the group's aim was to set up a Sunni Islamic state in the US.

Photographer from the News assaulted
The Detroit News

Detroit -- Police are investigating the assault of a Detroit News photographer outside a mosque whose leader was killed during a shootout with FBI agents Wednesday.

A group of men attacked photographer Ricardo Thomas about 6:30 p.m. outside the mosque on Clairmont at Holmur.

The attack lasted about 30 seconds and damaged camera equipment. The men returned to the mosque, but had left by the time police arrived.

"They told him to stop taking pictures; he said, 'I'm just doing my job,' and then they set upon him," said reporter Charlie LeDuff, who witnessed the assault.

Thomas, whose lip was split and glasses broken, drove himself to a hospital for treatment.

Jonathan Wolman, editor and publisher of The Detroit News, called the incident "outrageous."

10. Abdullah,leader of a mostly African-American converts.Another leader is a Black Panther.
"None was charged with terrorism or terrorism-related crimes."

snip

Abdullah had espoused the use of violence against law enforcement, and had trained members of his group in use of firearms and martial arts in anticipation of some type of action against the government, according to an affidavit unsealed on Wednesday.

snip

The FBI said the group was led by Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, a major figure in the militant Black Panther party in the 1960s. Brown is serving a prison sentence for the murder of two police officers in Georgia.

11. So he was shot by Christianists?
God, I hate RW language re-engineering.

The term is "Islamic fundamentalist" or Islamic radical".

14. So sez the cops. If I were Muslim, I might want to keep some arms in
case the state, local, federal constabulary wanted to "interact". I know I would not want to be sent to Gitmo or to a black prison run by the CIA or Black Water or some other surogate like the Egyptian secret police and without any due process or record. I just may have weapons around the apartment. You know, like Fred Hampton did in Chicago when he resisted arrest in his sleep and the various levels of cops shot him to death without him or the other victim getting off a round. And if he hadn't any weapons you can be sure the cops made sure he was packing after death.

I don't believe Obama's cops either.

16. Conveniently shot dead
And again cops are telling the truth. Makes me wonder if non judicial labeling of people with strange titles is a death warrant ? Detroit is on the brink of total collapse and I hope this action is not solution to the problems
