(CNN) -- Roadside bombs on Tuesday killed eight U.S. service members and an Afghan civilian working with NATO troops in southern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said.

On Monday, 14 Americans died in two helicopter crashes in Afghanistan, ISAF said -- 10 in one incident and four in the other.

That was the largest number of Americans killed in Afghanistan in a single day in at least three years, according to CNN records.

ISAF ruled out enemy fire in the crash that killed four Americans, and said enemy action was not thought be the cause of the other

2. jesus!!! obama needs to either go all in or friggin cut bait and get the hell out of there!!
I mean, unless you are willing to reinstate the draft and go put everything into this, then you need to get the fuck out. that's the way I see it... and no one is going to reinstate the draft. it's political suicide.

5. Meanwhile, all the poor and working class kids fight the wars
If the children of the wealthy were suddenly expected to shoulder their share of this fight in proportion to those of the poor, the war would end tomorrow.

8 US troops die; new deadliest month in Afghan war
By TODD PITMAN, Associated Press Writer 3 mins ago

KABUL – Eight American troops were killed in two separate insurgent attacks Tuesday in southern Afghanistan, making October the deadliest month of the war for U.S. forces since the 2001 invasion to oust the Taliban.

In one of the insurgent assaults, seven Americans were killed while patrolling in armored vehicles, U.S. forces spokesman Lt. Col. Todd Vician said. He said an Afghan civilian died in the same attack. The eighth American was killed in a separate attack elsewhere in the south, also while patrolling in a military vehicle, he said.

The military issued a statement saying the deaths occurred during "multiple, complex" bomb strikes. It said several troops were wounded and evacuated to a nearby medical facility, but gave no other details.

Capt. Adam Weece, a spokesman for American forces in the south, said both attacks occurred in Kandahar province. In Washington, a U.S. defense official said at least one was followed by an intense firefight with insurgents who attacked after an initial bomb went off. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to release the information. ... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091027/ap_on_re_as/as_afghanistan

12. 8 U.S. troops killed in Afghanistan
Source: CNN

October 27, 2009 12:26 p.m. EDT

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- The U.S. military suffered another day of heavy losses in Afghanistan on Tuesday as roadside bombs killed eight U.S. service members, the U.S. military said.

An Afghan civilian working with NATO troops also was killed in the attacks in southern Afghanistan, the military said.

The military gave no further details about the bombings, which it said also wounded several other service members. A U.S. military official said the service members were inside armored vehicles at the time of the attacks. The official said one service member was killed in one attack, while the other seven were killed in the other attack.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs issued a statement of condolence:

"As always our prayers go out to those who have lost a loved one and for those who sacrificed so much to serve our country."

The attacks happened a day after 14 Americans were killed in a pair of helicopter crashes in Afghanistan. It was the largest number of Americans killed in Afghanistan in a single day in more than four years.

18. Eight U.S. service members killed in Afghanistan, the military said.
There is a need to research and learn more on how to fight
against insurgency to avoid such catastrophic incident in
Afghanistan. I personally admire the cause of Mathew Hoh, and
hope that politics should never be given a chance to play with
the lives of our soldiers and put our economy at risk.

I believe that without the cooperation of the people in
Afghanistan it is hard for the NATO forces to win the war on
terrorism specially that this is just not a war on terrorism,
but touches the war in corruption. SENDING MORE TROOPS IS A
WASTE OF OUR SOLDIERS LIVES AND OUR MONEY.

IT IS BEST TO CREATE A CITIZENS ARMED FORCES (CAFGU) TO FIGHT
AGAINST INSURGENTS. The locals are more knowledgeable of what
is going on in their community. THEY ARE THE BEST DEFENSE
AGAINST INTRUDERS AND INSURGENTS.

IT IS CRUCIAL TO TEACH THE LOCAL PEOPLE (PEOPLE IN
AFGHANISTAN) TO PROTECT THEMSELVES AGAINST INTRUDERS AND
INSURGENTS. PROVIDE THEM WITH TRAINING AND EQUIPPED THEM WITH
AMMUNITION’S REGISTERED UNDER THE GOVERNMENT AND PAY THEM WITH
ALLOWANCES AND SOME KIND OF BENEFITS.

CREATE A CENSUS IN EVERY LOCALITY AND IDENTIFY THE ONES THAT
ARE CONCERNED CITIZENS AND WHO ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO DO
SOMETHING FOR A CAUSE. THROUGH EXPERIENCE I KNOW THIS WILL
WORK. IT IS ALSO CRUCIAL TO REORGANIZE TO IDENTIFY THE
LOOPHOLES OF ITS CREATION AS A STRENGTHENING POWER, FOR FUTURE
STABILITY.
