Hubble De-Funding Tied To Big-Bang Research?
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/10/science/10HUBB.html?th

Is this another example of the Bush Administration hiding or disabling research which contradicts its ideology? After all, only forces of "evil" would doubt the evangelical take on creation held by these incurious know-nothings. Coming soon, faith-based scientific funding?!

Back when we were building the Superconducting Super Collider, more
than one person commented on the fact that Deaf Smith County, TX
(site of the project) probably had far more people who believed in
the Biblical story of creation than in the Big Bang, and wasn't it
ironic that pure politics has caused the SSC to be sited there?

Of course, the SSC never got past being a very expensive, very
long, concrete-lined hole in the ground. So I suppose the
creationists of Deaf Smith County, TX had the last laugh.

3. NC campaigned hard for the SSC I recall
and we were dissappointed that we lost to TX.

It retrospect, it was a good thing.

2. Hubbel offers such wonderful peeks into the universe and sparks questions
Fundies must really hate that. And it is pure science for the sake of knowledge and the corporations must really hate that.

If they can't extract raw materials from it, exploit it, sell it, consume it, or use it to advance religious intolerance, they don't seem to have any idea what to do with a thing and it has no value to them. Such narrow perspective. Such blindness.

5. dupe
Different article, but same basic story, and the headline has nothing to do with the article at all.
