Biden Says ‘Who Cares’ What Cheney Says
Source: New York Times

PRAGUE — Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. had a blunt response Friday to the latest broadsides from former Vice President Dick Cheney: “Who cares?”

In the latest exchange between old and new administrations, Mr. Biden rebuffed his predecessor’s criticism about President Obama’s handling of Afghanistan as “absolutely wrong.” And Mr. Biden rejected the last review of the war conducted by the White House under former President George W. Bush and Mr. Cheney as “irrelevant.”

That would be the cruelest punishment of all, and the only one that would matter to him.

This 'who cares what so-and-so thinks' approach is also divisive and ... has sadly become standard fare in other debates ... with serious negative implications. Tell us why your predecessor is wrong Joe, don't just jab away below the belt. It can 'back-fire'.

to what they and he warrant.

This is a man who had a 9% approval rating during his last days in office.

The only relevance he has is what the media and the WH give him. Gibbs has gone point by point with Cheney on occasion. But, that only feeds the daily yadda yadda of the lazy media, which love the back and forth because it passes for news with no work on their part besides stirring post. If you simply say the guy is no longer relevant and has no up to date intelligence anyway, that is going to resonate. And, regardless of what may or may not be appropriate for Gibbs, for the POTUS and Veep, trvializing is the way to go.

IMO, Biden should have said, "Why does anyone care?" and ended there. Instead, he went into a point by point. So, his actual reply was either the best of both worlds or the worst of both worlds, depending upon your point of view. He provided a flippant and dismissive sound bite, but then went on to treat each Cheney's remarks as meriting a detailed reply.

70. welcome to DU! and I think you're right, where some people are concerned, anyway
I hope the number of people for whom "who cares" is a better approach has grown substantially since 2008, and those who still care what Cheney says are pretty hard core, but he probably shouldn't be allowed to just spout crap without at least a short response--like Joe's. :)

69. Best way to hurt cheney
Remove Haliburton & KBR as "contractors". Hit him in the one area in which he has feelings - his wallet. That's what all this is about - he's sulking, pouting and showing out because of the bill that just passed that companies can not be suppliers if the have "rape clauses" in their contracts. Haliburton and KBR need to be 100% eliminated from participating in government programs.

Dick Cheney is (THANKFULLY) irrelevant, now. Whether DICK will acknowledge his responsibility for the near bankruptcy of this nation or not, I do not give a damn. He can go to hell. He is no longer in the seat of power and he can go to hell!!!

P.S. He should be in prison with all his assets in federal trust funds to pay back all the soldiers whose lives he sacrificed for his "vision" of corporatocracy in Iraq,...the son-of-a-demon!

26. So Glad the VP responded in that way, however....
I'm also very tired of the Cheney/Bush machine projecting their calculated political negativity into the atmosphere, potentially affecting US relations with other countries (still!) It's all well and good that the world pretty much loves Obama, but they're also aware that our presidents have term limits. The citizens of the world must have some trepidation that the American people could do something stupid again, like elect a neocon. Especially when they won't go away quietly.

46. That's Why Biden's Response Is So Apt
I agree with you, but Biden declaring them irrelevant and giving Cheney a big "who cares" would seem to be a way to diminish their value. Now, what sane reporter will ever ask Biden about Cheney again. He or she will just get the same answer. Joe has made it clear that Siverspoon/Cheney are no longer relevant and their words are not important.

I think an answer like Biden's might just get the two of us what we're wishing for.

First, Dick Cheney is a former V.P., period, not an administration. Second, there have been no exhanges between these people. The media quotes Cheney, then the media seeks a comment from the WH or some other administration official. If anything, these are exchanges with the media.
