Kerry Cruises To Four More Primary Victories
With No Real Rivals For Nomination, Kerry Focusing On Bush

UPDATED: 9:10 p.m. EST March 9, 2004

MIAMI -- With only phantom rivals and pushovers standing in his way, Democrat John Kerry easily won the four Southern primaries Tuesday in Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas .

The latest victories put Kerry within striking distance of the presidential nomination.

He was winning about 70 percent of the votes in Florida and Mississippi, and exit polls found him piling up sizable victories in the two other states, with the field pretty much to himself.

There are only two major Democratic candidates still opposing Kerry -- Rev. Al Sharpton and Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich. Both have vowed to continue their campaign until the Democratic convention in July, despite garnering single-digit support in most primaries and caucuses.

2. There's just one thing I kinda wish
I wish that our voters (regardless which candidate they vote for) would keep coming out in strength. Unfortunately, that apparently fell off now. If they kept coming out in strength, it makes the news and gets momentum going---you know, the "hey let's vote for Kerry in the fall because we want to vote for the winner". I noted that today media was taking pleasure in noting that "turnout was low". Damn

3. yeah, that's true -- although it's hard to get out there
when the outcome is already preordained. I think the voter turnout among dems will be strong this year. There is just too much at stake.
