UK's Sky News reports Lockerbie bomber has died
Source: Reuters

LONDON (Reuters) - Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi has died, Britain's Sky News said on Wednesday, quoting "reports."

The British Foreign Office could not confirm the report and the Scottish government said it was checking the report.

Scottish authorities released Megrahi, a Libyan agent convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie airliner bombing in which 270 people were killed, on compassionate grounds in August.

1. Not true says his lawyer. He's still alive.

LONDON (Reuters) - Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset al-Megrahi is still alive, his Scottish lawyer said on Wednesday, dismissing a report that he had died.

"It's absolutely untrue," lawyer Tony Kelly told Reuters when asked if he could confirm a Sky News report that his client had died. "He's definitely not dead."

"I'm not saying anything about his health condition other than the fact he is alive and breathing," Kelly said.

8. Re: one and one equals four
Pegging the man on evidence used against him which on closer inspection reveals fixing doesn't make him guilty. Can you be sure enough to cast your curse with such confidence, or are you ... just enjoying the show?

Scotland - "Details of the papers released by the defense team that was formerly in charge of convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Magrahi’s appeal are coming out of the woodwork. Among those details are accusations of the Scottish and US governments paying off witnesses in the trial.

"According to notes in private diaries by Scottish detectives (though not in official notes on the case), the U.S. Justice Department was asked during the investigation to secure payments of $3 million in total to two brothers that testified against al-Magrahi.

"The first was a Maltese shopkeeper who said that he had sold al-Magrahi the clothes that were found in the suitcase with the bomb."

10. "The US Justice Dept. was asked to secure payments"...

sounds like our tax dollars being used to cover up evidence that might otherwise uncover significant levels of corruption. When will we ever learn.

3. If the Lockerbie bomber dies, we will never hear of it -
because we don't know who it is. The man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing almost certainly had nothing to do with it.
