Health care protest targets giant insurer CIGNA

DEN PRAIRIE - With drums drumming, whistles blowing, and pie tins banging, about 60 protestors visited the Twin Cities offices of health insurer CIGNA Tuesday as part of a national day of action urging the U.S. Senate to adopt health care reform that includes a public option.
Minnesota members of Health Care for America Now, a coalition of labor unions, faith groups, and community organizations, organized the protest.

“We have done one action a week for five weeks in a row, focused on the insurance industry,” said Chris Conry, representing Take Action Minnesota. Similar actions nationwide in recent weeks have been cited by the news media as evidence of growing support for including the public option in health care reform legislation.

Demonstrators unfurled a large banner from a balcony inside the Cigna offices.

At Tuesday’s action, the protestors moved quickly into the atrium of the Eden Prairie office building housing offices of CIGNA, one the nation’s top five health insurance companies.

1. I have Cigna. Those fraudulent a**holes make up reasons to deny payment.
They denied coverage for procedures for both my husband and I just last week, made-up reasons. They denied my claim on the grounds that I might have other insurance (I don't), and they denied my husband on the grounds that the provider sent the bill to the wrong office. So carry it down the hall, already!

My husband's employer doesn't give us any other options, and we're uninsurable in the open market due to pre-existing conditions.

If I had known about this protest, I would have considered flying to Minnesota to join in. Or not-- with $14,000 in unreimbursed medical expenses last month, things are a little tight.

2. CIGNA has gotta be the worst....
Their workman's comp is no walk in the park, either. And yes, I do think they try to skip out on paying, for any reason they can find, and some that don't exist. Their "case managers" should be prosecuted for practicing medicine without a license. Example: One of the machinists I worked with has Asthma bad - bad enough that he could only take a short shower, 'cuz the humidity would get him.
CIGNA's minions called him up, were trying to get him on a cheaper medicine and have him talk his doc into it. He told me after a couple calls (I was kinda his boss) - I told him to rat 'em out to his doctor and our HR monster. - because I needed him healthy, happy, and focused, not driven home sick 'cuz some jerk cheaped him out.

3. Cigna murdered a co-worker of mine years ago.
She was having respitory problems for months. Cigna kept denying tests her doctor wanted. Finally, she was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, far too late to save her life.

I've never forgotten, and I will never forgive.

Always remember, it could have been any one of us....
