AFP - Six people were taken hostage Wednesday in a hold-up on a supermarket in the Paris suburbs, officials said.

Police said a gang of men attacked the LIDL discount store in an industrial zone in Sevran, north of the capital, at around 8:00 am (0600 GMT).

A judicial official said the gang were holding six people hostage. It was not known if they were armed.

"They are still inside. The police are here and have surrounded the building," said the mayor of Sevran Stephane Gatignon.
