'Extremists hijack' military name
Source: BBC

The reputation of the armed forces is being tarnished by right-wing political "extremists", a group of former military leaders has warned.

Two former heads of the Army are among those to put their names to a letter accusing "those who seek to hijack the good name of Britain's military". It does not name the BNP but was issued as part of a campaign against them.

The commander of the Desert Rats in the first Gulf War, Major-General Sir Patrick Cordingley, and former Chief of Defence Staff Lord Guthrie are the other signatories on the letter, alongside the former Army chiefs, generals Sir Mike Jackson and Sir Richard Dannatt.

They write: "We call on all those who seek to hijack the good name of Britain's military for their own advantage to cease and desist. The values of these extremists - many of whom are essentially racist - are fundamentally at odds with the values of the modern British military, such as tolerance and fairness."

2. This campaign is especially dishonest
As the BNP are the direct political descendants of Oswald Moseley. These are the people who backed Hitler against Churchill in WWII.

And this is one of the big reasons why people won't have anything to do with them. Our right wingers may be many things, but the majority of them don't have any time for traitors who tried to sell our country out during WWII.

3. Really? Does the name Prescott Bush ring a bell? How about Lucky Lindy?

If you were a monied WASP, the RW loved you.

If you had leaned left during the 30's, probably as a reaction to Hoovervilles, racism, and ruthlessness to labor, J.Edgar slipped your name out to rabid Joe McCarthy who, with loyal allies like Barry Goldwater, tried to use the power of the United States government ro ruin your career and your life and your family's life along with yours.

Oversimplification? Maybe. But maybe there is a lot of truth in this post anwyay.

4. And I think you have just touched on the truth.
I agree that this is an old struggle that really goes back to feudalism.

5. I think you might want to re-think the context here
Think of what was going on on the other side of the Atlantic with Oswald Mosely and Lord Haw-Haw.

Mind you, it's interesting to note that the BNP have pretty much ruined their chances of winning any more military votes with their reaction to this

I just thought you were being too generous to our right wingers. I was not comparing them to any other nation's right wingers. (I can barely stomach thinking about our own, let alone right wingers in other countries.)
