Jordan King Warns Over US Mideast Policy
Source: Associated Press

(AP) – 5 hours ago

ROME — Jordan's king said in comments published Monday that the U.S. administration seems to be focusing more of its attention on Iran and less on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying time was running out to make peace.

In an interview with Italian daily La Repubblica, King Abdullah II said the region's hopes for peace were huge at the start of the Obama administration, but now sees the "goal getting farther away."

"I've heard people in Washington talking about Iran, again Iran, always Iran," Abdullah was quoted as saying. "But I insist on, and keep insisting on the Palestinian question: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the most serious threat to the stability of the region and the Mediterranean."

He said the two sides have a window of opportunity over the next year to make progress on creating a two-state solution, after which point the possibility of a Palestinian state will disappear as more Arab land gets swallowed up by Jewish settlements.

"The window of opportunity will soon close," he was quoted as saying. "By the end of 2010, if Israel doesn't believe in the two-state solution, the possibility of a future Palestinian state will disappear because of geographic reasons: already the land is fragmented into cantons."

1. But if we help Israel after they invade Iran, it will bolster our (military/imperial) economy

and show the world how tough we are--even though our President is a black muslin.

Backing a key American ally (Israel) against a nuclear-armed radical muslin state, giving our economy a shot in the arm (just like WWII), showing that President Obama isn't a socialist wimp, keeping the right-wing and the Military-Industrial-Intelligence-Corporate Complex happy, offering more American youth an opportunity to "Join the Military and Be Somebody", but most of all, keeping us from thinking about how Wall Street and the Insurance giants are screwing us over.

So many positives. What could possibly be the down side?

2. Very little downside
You cannot be too cynical when thinking about our mideast policy. The chances of Obama and Clinton pushing Netanyahu into any kind of reasonable agreement with the other players in the region is very close to zero.

3. Sad to say, Knight Hawk, but I think you're right.
