GOP Launches Strategy to Trip Up Health Bill

GOP Launches Strategy to Trip Up Health Bill
By David M. Drucker

Oct. 19, 2009, 12 a.m.

Senate Republicans, acknowledging they lack the votes to block a health care reform bill outright, have implemented a comprehensive political strategy to delay, define and derail.

With Democratic leaders and White House officials holed up in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) office negotiating a final bill, Republicans are demanding a deceleration of the process and moving to define whatever plan that emerges as a combination of Medicare cuts, tax increases, higher insurance premiums and rising overall costs.

“Where they’re headed is inconsistent with the American people, so I’m not sure it’s as much about us as it is about making sure that the American people express their deep concerns over this,” Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) said last week. “Certainly they’ve got the votes, but they’re going to have to hold every one of them in the United States Senate to make it through this.”

Senate Democrats are rejecting Republicans’ demands to slow things down, charging that the GOP isn’t interested in working with the majority to craft a bipartisan health care bill. Rather, Reid said repeatedly last week, the Republicans’ primary goal is to sink reform in order to undercut President Barack Obama.

As in-

No power

no scruples

and no leader (unless you want to count a drug-addict talk radio host)

3. And how is this different from what they've been doing all along?
"define whatever plan that emerges as a combination of Medicare cuts, tax increases, higher insurance premiums and rising overall costs"

Is there anything in there that they haven't been hammering since the beginning of the Summer recess?

They just want to have more time to add in confusion and untruths that their media, ie fox news, ABC, Limpballs, etc, are spreading. That way they can get a lot of money from the insurance companies to add to their coffers. It really is about money and power for them. They will loose a lot of it if this goes through. My husband was listening to a ditto head at the office and he said, do you want the government making decisions about your life? I said, well the insurance companies do it now and who would you rather trust. We have not had a lot of medical issues, but still have had issues with always getting things approved and paid for.

6. The "American people" had plenty of time to express "deep concerns"
The teabaggers were out in full force in August, and the insurance industry shot their load a week ago. The Republicans, the Chamber of Commerce, et al continue their fear campaigns as we speak. All of these failed to derail health reform.

The GOP has nothing left to do now in the process but to continue to whine for a voice and time for a "debate." I think we should give them the 72 hours to review the bill. Start the window on Thanksgiving day.

7. Oh, By All Means

I heard a blip yesterday or this morning, about how this is the time of year when many companies re-negotiate with insurers for employee enrollment plans, and that many employers will increase the contribution on the employees' sides.

So yeah, I'd love to see how all these white collar workers react to yet-another $50 coming out of their bi-weekly paychecks.

11. I don't care that this bill takes $500 million from medicare
Edited on Mon Oct-19-09 11:46 AM by ooglymoogly
as long as everyone gets covered. However, if it takes $500 million from medicare and does not provide a strong public option, then it is a pile of shit boondoggle, designed by the insurance cabal for their own theft and benefit and does not have my support. The cost is to great to the taxpayer and the elderly, who can little afford it, for the few crumbs they are thrown back.
