Big anti-abortion rally in Spain
Source: BBC World News

More than a million people are said to have taken part in a march in Madrid to oppose government plans to liberalise Spain's abortion law. Police estimates put the crowd at 250,000, but the regional government said that over a million had turned out, with the organisers claiming a turnout of two million.

Saturday's march, called Every Life Matters, has brought together more than 40 religious and civil society groups.
They are demanding that the government withdraw the draft law currently before parliament, which would introduce abortion on demand within the first 14 weeks of a pregnancy. It would also permit girls aged 16 and 17 to have an abortion without their parents' knowledge.

Spain's existing law, dating from 1985, allows abortion in cases of rape, and when there are signs of foetal abnormality.
Spanish women can also end a pregnancy if their physical or psychological health is at risk.

2. Attempts to liberalize abortion and divorce figured in the beginning of Spanish Civil War
Conversely, some people in the antiabortion movement in the US would be right at home in Franco's rightist reign of terror.

6. True.
But I have no problem, personally, being called "pro-abortion." I'm very glad that it's an option for those who want it or need it.

5. I'm sure it would be approved in a referendum.
The right in Spain is fucked for the next 100 years for its crimes under fascism.
