White House aide turns up heat on Fox News by saying many of its stories are just "not true"
Source: NY Daily News

The White House fired off a more salvos yesterday in its war with Fox News.

"I have watched many stories on that network that I found not to be true," White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said of the cable network.

It was was catnip for Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck, who happily dove into the indignation playpen.

On his show, Beck installed a red phone which the White House was supposed to call if he uttered an untruth and "correct anything on this program."

1. ha ha really?
I hope the white house takes the dope up on that and starts calling. Damn, I'm on vacation and would enjoy that job. What's the number? I'll rot my brain with Beck if it means I can harass him everytime he lies. Which is everytime he opens his stupid mouth.

Prolly a fake phone though, huh?

19. The White House shouldn't call Beck. They should just give out Beck's red phone number
and encourage other people to call

"you will have to leave the health care program you have, even if you're completely happy with it." (paraphrased)

3. Fox News really does not want a war with the White House
It's one thing to pick on Democrats when they are out of power, but when they control the government, they have a lot more tools at their disposal to make life very miserable for Fox.

33. Then they are mistaken
We have the government. They don't.

Think FCC licenses, White House press passes, anti-trust investigations, etc.

36. FNC doesn't need an FCC license. That's only for broadcast stations, not cable stations.
And what's this about "we have the government?" "We" don't have the government. The government belongs to all the people and it should be serving all the people, not just those who voted one particular way.

13. either that's how stupid their PA's and EP's are
that they can't wrap their minds around the fact that it's possible to have more than one Michael Brown in the world or, what may be more to the truth, they don't give a fuck if it's wrong.

21. It's worse even than that.
They know they are and they doit intentionally. Remember, FOX got a court judgment stating, boiled down, that they are under no legal obligation to give their viewers truth. That's why they keep putting (D) next to the name of XYZ Scandalous Republican.

They lie and they know they lie. They lie on purpose, with malice.

6. Except, the White House is not going to give any credibility to a "host"
who just spouts his own bile by "calling" him.

After all, lying about the Democrats is the bread and butter of Fox.

Investigative reporter Jane Akre sued Fox News and won. Until the court ruled that news does not have to be true.

10. I don't think this is worth the White House's time...
the folks who watch Fox News won't be convinced; the folks on our side don't need to be convinced, and the remainder are probably going to see this as petty bickering.

Seriously. I do not know anybody who watches Fox news. You know when you walk into somebodies house and notice the channel they are watching kind of thing. It is never Fox. HOWEVER, I do notice that most business's that I walk into have it on. WTF is up with that!!??

Does anybody know anybody who actually watches Fox..??

16. A lot of people watch.
They have better ratings than CNN and MSNBC combined. In fact, the ten top rated programs on cable news were all on FNC in both the demo and total viewers.

20. Is giving Fox News publicity a good plan?
It will just increase their viewership.

Glen Beck is probably developing a head as large as Neil Cavuto. Bill O'Reill will become even more obnoxious.

The sad part is that MSNBC is not in high def on Direct TV. I like high def. CNN is in high def, but Wolf Blitzer lacks a dynamic personality and to me seems whiny.

Rush Limbaugh will be disappointed that he is no longer the prime target.

Every time something comes up in conversation, all across America, people will be armed with "was that on faux news?" whenever they smell a rat.

30. This is how to use the bully pullpit. You put the spotlight on the liars.
This really puts Fox in a box.

The "fair and balance" facade is a joke and now the White House is making them the issue. That's a good thing.

It's a great thing.

31. The WH is right
Fox News fought and won a courageous court battle for the right to lie to it's viewers.

They should be PROUD of their lying, since they fought for it and practice it so often.
